Chapter 1
“Gigi, let’s get a divorce,” said the man who was kissing Giselle Mueller a second ago.
“What? A divorce?” Giselle gawked at him in disbelief, wondering if she had misheard.
“Yes. A divorce. You know… Tatiana’s back.” Fabian Mercado looked
torn.
Giselle stared at him, confused. He seemed so calm, not guilty at all.
Did getting a divorce mean nothing to him?
After what felt like an eternity, Giselle nodded slowly. “Fine. As you wish.”
She turned around and walked into the bathroom, tears streaming
down her cheeks.
Today was her birthday. She went grocery shopping early in the morning and started to prepare at noon. In the evening, she made a table full of dishes, waiting for Fabian to come home.
She waited for six hours since 6:00 p.m., but he was still nowhere to
be seen.
Her phone rang, and as she picked it up, she saw a photo sent by Tatiana Wagner, Fabian’s first love.
In the photo, Tatiana snuggled up to Fabian with a sweet smile.
Now that Tatiana had come around, it was time for her to leave.
Standing under the showerhead, as water ran down her face, she couldn’t tell whether it was water or her tears.
She had psyched herself up but still couldn’t help but feel a bit sad.
Fabian and she had been married for two years, and he had always been nothing but a loving husband. For a time, she even had the illusion that he had indeed fallen for her.
Illusion was illusion after all.
Her heart ached so much that she couldn’t even breathe.
“Gigi? Are you OK?” Fabian knocked on the bathroom door.
“Yes.” His hypocrisy sickened her, dragging her into deeper sorrow. Since he already had his beloved, why act like he cared about her?
She turned off the shower, put on her pajamas, and walked out, only to see that Fabian had already changed into his suit and was about to head out. His sharp suit made him even more unapproachable.
Fabian was standing right in front of her, but she felt he was thousands of miles away.
Maybe it was because they had never belonged to the same world in the first place.
Staring at him, she asked, “It’s already so late. Are you going out?”
“Tatiana needs me. Don’t wait up, OK? I probably won’t come back tonight.”
Giselle forced a smile, not surprising at all. Since Tatiana had come around, of course, he’d stay by her side.
As Fabian lett, the spacious bedroom suddenly became so empty.
Feeling hurt both physically and mentally, she couldn’t sleep no matter
what
It was almost dawn as she finally drilled to sleep.
Her internal clock woke her at 6:00 am. sharp. She felt a splitting headache, and her whole body was so sore.
She must get up now and go to the pharmacy immediately.
Fabian hadn’t used protection last night. She couldn’t afford to get pregnant now that they were getting a divorce.
