Chapter 9 The Mercado’s Mansion
Arriving at the Mercado’s mansion. Fabian parked the car, stepped out, and walked over to hold Giselle’s hand.
He said. “Grandma knows nothing about the divorce. I hope you don’t slip up.”
“I know what to do.” Giselle said. Giada saw her as family, and of course, she wouldn’t do anything to upset Giada.
“Gigi, you’re finally here. It’s only been a month. How come you’ve become even thinner? Did Fabian upset you?” Giada held Giselle in her arms and stroked Giselle’s face with distress in her eyes.
“Not at all, Giada. It’s just that my stomach has been a bit weak lately, and I don’t have much appetite. It’s got nothing to do with Fabian. He’s been so good to me.” Giselle smiled.
Giada shot a glance at Fabian and said irritably, “Baron is waiting for you in the study upstairs. Go! I don’t want you here.”
Fabian was momentarily speechless.
Baron Mercado, his grandfather, lashed out at him the second he walked into the study.
“You’ve got some nerve coming back, Fabian!”
“You asked me to come back,” Fabian retorted.
“How dare you talk back! You’re already
thirty years old. Be mature,
OK? Back then, you insisted on marrying Giselle against everyone’s suggestion. And after two years, you want a divorce? What’s marriage. to you? Some kind of joke? Are you trying to piss off Giada and me? Congratulations. You nailed it!” Baron snapped.
Fabian lowered his head, remaining silent.
He had married Giselle to get rid of an arranged marriage. But Tatiana had threatened him with her life and had almost become a permanent vegetable because of him. He was obliged to take care of her.
As for Giselle–he’d give her enough money to set her up for life.
Meanwhile, Giada and Giselle had a heartfelt talk. In fact, Giada knew about the divorce, too, though Giselle and Fabian had kept it a secret.
“Gigi, you’ve graduated from college. When are Baron and I getting grandkids? We’d be happy to help while we still can.”
Giselle thought, “Fabian and I have already had a baby, but we’re getting a divorce. What should I do with my baby?”
She said, “Giada, Fabian’s swamped with work.”
“No more excuses for him, Gigi. If he dares to upset you, Baron and I will make sure he regrets it!”
“Thank you, Giada.” Giselle was so touched that her eyes turned red. Sadly, though Baron and Giada sided with her, it still wouldn’t change the fact that Fabian and she were getting a divorce.
“You’re so sweet, Gigi. Let’s go to the dining room. The meal is ready.”
The table was full of dishes that Giselle liked per Giada’s instructions, including fish.
”
There was baked fish, pan–fried fish, and so on…
Being pregnant, Giselle was exceptionally sensitive to smells. The fishy smell made her sick, and she immediately ran to the bathroom. and started to retch.
“Is she OK?” Giada asked suspiciously.
“Gigi’s stomach has been weak lately. I’ve already taken her to see a
doctor.”
Fabian had always taken Giselle to see Jarrett whenever she was sick. Jarrett was the best doctor in Krarbury, and he was Fabian’s best friend, so Fabian trusted him a lot.
Giada said, “Fabian, Baron and I adore Gigi. She’s the only granddaughter–in–law we acknowledge. If you dare to divorce her, we’ll cut all ties with you!”
Fabian parted his lips but didn’t know what to say.
As Giselle walked out of the bathroom, the topic came to an abrupt
stop.
Giselle and Fabian were about to go back after having lunch, but he wanted her to spend more time with Giada, and just like that, they stayed at the Mercado’s mansion till the evening.
