Blake froze, his eyes widening in disbelief.
“No one invited you to this party. You both shamelessly elbowed your way in.”

“Now, take your new girlfriend and get out of here.”
My words were direct, my finger pointed straight at the door.
Daisy’s sobs intensified, her voice high–pitched and choked as she clung to Blake.
“Brother Blake, don’t argue or get angry because of me! I really didn’t mean it just now. I’ll even kneel and apologize to her! It’s all my fault!”
Blake grabbed her hand and walked towards the exit. At the doorway, he turned back to me and said, word for word,
“Vivian, you were the one who worked so hard to get close to me. Don’t you dare regret this.”
The two of them had completely ruined the party. No one was in the mood to drink anymore, and the crowd quickly dispersed.
I was exhausted and disheveled, wanting nothing more than to go home and lie down.
Lying in bed, I instinctively called my little cat’s name. Blake had given him to me when we first got together.
Even if I felt nothing for Blake now, I had raised Mochi for so long; there was genuine affection for him.
“Mochi? Mochi?”
Usually, if I called his name like that, he would respond softly, come to me, and snuggle into my neck, rubbing against me with his soft fur.
But now, after calling so many times, there was no response from the room.
A bad feeling rose in my heart. I turned on all the lights, searching for Mochi.
I found nothing. I checked the security camera and discovered that Blake and Daisy had been to my house. They had taken Mochi.
I immediately dialed Blake’s number. It rang for a long time before being answered.

“Blake, where’s Mochi? Where did you take him?”
“Daisy liked him. We just took him out to play for a bit. We’ll send him back later.”
With that, Blake quickly hung up, as if afraid of getting entangled with me any further.
The life he had with Daisy now was what he had always dreamed of and desired.
I tried to calm myself, to get my emotions in check, and then headed out to the street to search for Mochi.
The sky grew darker, pedestrians on the road gradually thinned, and the sound of cars disappeared.
The whole world became quiet, only my voice, hoarse and almost unable to speak, echoed through the streets as I called for Mochi.
I don’t know how long passed when a sudden, sharp laugh broke the silence of the street.
I followed the sound and saw it was Blake and Daisy.
A chocolate cream cake sat in front of them. Daisy dipped her finger in the cream and dabbed it on Blake’s nose.
Blake chuckled affectionately, indulgently flicking her nose and gently licking the cream from the corner of her lips.
“Brother Blake, I’m so happy! To be with you on my birthday, even after that unpleasantness today, I feel incredibly blessed!”
Blake displayed a long–lost smile. In my previous life, even after years of marriage, I had never seen him look so utterly
content.
“Daisy, life is too short. I just want to be with you, to spend every year by your side.”
Though I felt no lingering attachment to Blake, seeing this scene still stung my heart.
In my last life, after marrying him, I seemed to have never celebrated my birthday, dedicating my whole self to our joint
careers.
On the rare occasion of a birthday, all I’d get was a bowl of plain pasta from him, no sauce, not even a sprinkle of cheese.
He’d say things like, “Life is just that plain. Besides, cake is too sweet, and I don’t really like it, and you’re always worried about gaining weight. No need for all these ‘ceremonial‘ things.”
Back then, I truly believed he was humble and simple, uninterested in such rituals.
A bowl of plain pasta cooked by his own hands, because he said it was made with love, I’d eat it with relish.
It wasn’t until I saw Daisy that I realized he simply wasn’t willing to put in the effort for me. He wouldn’t even spare a fraction of his energy to order a cake for me.
He didn’t love me. That was the absolute truth.
