I swallowed the bitterness in my heart and asked coldly,
“Where’s Mochi?”
Hearing my voice, both of them seemed startled.
Daisy was the first to react, looking down. I followed her gaze and saw Mochi lying on the ground, half–dead, constantly frothing at the mouth.
“Mochi! What did you do to him?!”
I immediately scooped Mochi into my arms, my expression grim as I questioned them.
“I just went back to pack my luggage. Daisy thought Mochi was cute, so she took him out to play for a bit and fed him Some cake.”
“Maybe it got cold tonight. Take it to the vet, it shouldn’t be anything serious!”
Blake answered coldly, completely unconcerned.
“Cake? This cake is full of chocolate and cream! Are you trying to kill Mochi?””
Later, I found out that on that very day–my birthday, no less–he had just happened to pick up a stray cat on the street and coincidentally gave it to me as a birthday present.
Having been with him for years, I knew exactly what kind of person he was. He only cared about himself and those he valued.
Beyond that, he was indifferent to everything and everyone else; one could even say he never truly cared.
Before Blake could say anything else, Daisy wailed dramatically, tears streaming down her face.
“I’m so sorry! I didn’t know cats can’t eat chocolate and cream! It’s all my fault! Don’t blame Brother Blake, I was the one who fed him!”
With that, Daisy dramatically closed her eyes, looking as if she was ready to receive my slap.
She claimed she didn’t know about cats and couldn’t eat chocolate or cream.
But I knew Daisy often worked part–time at pet stores and was well–versed in cat behavior.
In our last life, after we got married, she would always use the excuse of wanting to see Mochi to come to my house, saying she loved cats and wanted to play with him.
In reality, it was to get closer to Blake. I turned a blind eye, thinking Blake knew his limits, and never exposed Daisy’s lies.
“It’s just a bit of cake. Daisy didn’t know cats can’t eat these things. There’s no need to make a mountain out of a molehill,”

I was trembling with rage. They were the ones who made the mistake, yet they could still act so shamelessly and unconcerned.
Watching Mochi vomit more and more violently, I said nothing, my only thought was to get him to the vet as quickly as possible.
I took a deep look at Daisy and Blake. I had planned to cut all ties with Blake since he chose a new life, and we’d just stay out of each other’s way.
But now, I changed my mind. Blake always looked down on my way of making money, thinking I was vulgar, shallow, and uncultured.
Well, in this life, I’d show him what it means to be utterly helpless without me.
On the way to the hospital, Mochi was draped in my arms, vomiting non–stop, barely clinging to life.
When we finally reached the hospital entrance, Mochi completely stopped breathing. Due to food poisoning and excessive cream intake, he couldn’t be saved.
In that instant, my heart sank to rock bottom. Tears streamed down my face unconsciously, each one falling onto Mochi’s lifeless body.
When the pain is at its peak, there is no sound in your cries.
I held Mochi at the hospital entrance all night, until I fainted from low blood sugar. I woke up in a hospital bed, having been unconscious for two days.
After taking Mochi to be buried in the pet cemetery, I threw myself entirely into work.
Only by earning money could I make my life more exciting.
