Chapter 28

Julia’s POV

I looked up to see who it was. Lucas.I called out, giving a welcoming face

Julia. He called out and with a smile, he continued. It’s nice to see you again even though you almost knocked me off a few minutes ago.He teased

Oh, I’m so sorry. I was only trying to put in my phone inside my purse and I didn’t notice you coming. I’m really sorry.I apologized with a smile. Nice to meet you too.I added

But then, his mood changed and was replaced with concern as his brows furrowed in a rare display of worry. His eyes scanned me before breaking the silence

How are you feeling now? I see you’ve come for some checkup. He said and I smiled

Lucas thought I had come to the hospital for some check up

How is your wound? Are they getting better? Did you see the doctor already? Are there any new complications? His questions came after one another as if he was really worried about me and I wondered as to why he was being too concerned. It was as if resisting the urge to reach out and confirm for himself that I wasn’t hurt

Lucas wasn’t the type to let emotions slip easily. He had always been professional, almost detached, when it came to matters that aren’t business related

I’m fine,I said, feeling puzzled as to why he cared so much. I’m getting better, thanks for asking.I offered him a harmless smile. His expression didn’t ease immediately. He stood there, as if debating whether to believe me or not. Then, after a short but noticeable moment, his face smoothed back into its usual impassive look as usual

I see,he said, his voice measured now. Since you’re fine, I’m happy to hear that.”

What about you? Why are you here?”

Lucas’s face stiffened. His facial expression changed to something serious and before he could open his mouth to answer, my phone vibrated in my purse

Excuse me.I said as I took out my phone and glanced at the screen. It was Emily, calling

Give me a moment,I murmured and stepped aside to take the call

Emily, what is it?”

I looked into shareholder Samuel Hayes, she said immediately. He’s at home this afternoon, resting. There’s no business meeting or engagement that should keep him occupied and he hadn’t reached the company today as well..”

Samuel Hayes was one of the major shareholders in my company

Ever since the company sustained initial loss, many of the shareholders including Mr. Samuel was reluctant to hold hope for the company. And while I had managed to pull the company out of its financial crisis, trust was not something easily regained. Mr. Samuel had remained neutral during recent discussions, he never joined others to condemn my leadership even while the company was crumbling which meant I had a chance to bring him to my side once again considering the fact that I knew my worth now and was no longer Alex’s puppet. Good work, Emily,I said

Wrap the box on my desk beautifully and put it in my car.”

Understood.She replied

Ending the call, I turned back to Lucas, but he was now engaged in a conversation with someone. His expression was serious, his body angled slightly toward an older man in a doctor’s coat

I hesitated. He was completely focused, and I had no reason to interrupt. So I simply said, I’ll be heading out now.”

He barely glanced at me, giving only a short nod. Alright.”

That was it and I left the hospital

When I was taken into the living room by one of the servants, Mr. Samuel was drinking, tea, sitting on a chair in the middle of the room. He was dressed in a casual outfit, a black shorts and a white polo with no fancy slippers. His white hair, Viber in the eyes, the was evita o$6,62 years old, my father’s age mate

He had been a close friend of my father and had shown me kindness in the past. However, thy past mistakes, especially my bind devotion to Alex, had led to a rift between Mr. Samuel and 1. He was always disappointed that I had lot Alery tactise or my self worth and every since them, her withdrew himself from me. In my previous life, I hadn’t even attended his funeral. On that day, I was with Alere

Mr. Samuel’s expression darkened the moment he saw the

Thad expected this. Still, it hurt more than I thought it would

Mr. Samuel, I wanted to talk”

I don’t have time for pointless conversations,he cut me off, his gaze cold. P’ve already wasted enough time believing you could low up to your father’s legacy, You threw it all away for that bastard Alex, and now you think a few business moves will fix everything

His words were harsh, but I knew they came from disappointment rather than hatred

I understand why you’re angry,I said calmly, “I know I made mistakes, but I’m not here to make excuses, teamer because I want to prove that I’m not the same person anymore,”

Me, Samuel scoffed, I’ve heard that before. He turned away, dismissing me. If you’re here to make empty promises as usual, save your

I took a deep breath, steadying myself
