Julia’s POV
William did a great job. He didn’t have a choice, did he?
I had barely reached the door to my room when I suddenly heard a loud crash from the sitting room. It was a very loud thud as if something had fallen and not just that, I could hear Scarlett’s cursing voices.
I rushed out. The sight that met my eyes made me stop in my tracks. The television mounted in the sitting room was laying on the ground, its screen shattered into countless jagged pieces. And standing over it, stepping on the broken shards without a care, was Scarlett. She continued to step on it in rage as she screamed at the top of her lungs in frustration.
“William, you son of a bitch!” She cursed. “I know he did this!” She screamed again, grabbing a piece of the broken TV as she hit it countless times on the ground, her hands trembling in fury with little cuts from the broken TV as blood dripped down her hand but she didn’t care or seem to notice.
I had seen Scarlett angry before, but this? This was beyond anything I had witnessed.
Just then, Jake rushed out, his face filled with confusion as he watched Scarlett. His gaze darted from the broken television to me and then to Scarlett.
“What the hell is going on?” Jake demanded as he stepped forward.
Scarlett turned to him. “That damn William! That traitor!” she spat, her breath uneven. “He ruined me! I know he has something to do with this. That wasn’t the plan!” She said out loud, not realising she was about to expose herself.
“What plan?” Jake asked curiously, unaware of what transpired as he took another step forward.
I crossed my arms, watching her with cold detachment. “What plan?” I asked and took a step.
Scarlett turned her fiery gaze on me without saying a word.
Jake let out a scoff and shook his head, disappointed. “I’ve heard the stories which you can’t prove not guilty, Scarlett. People have been talking for a long time. Maybe this is what you deserve.” Jake spat, without any sign of respect.
Scarlett’s face twisted in anger. “What your tongue, kid!” She snapped. But before Jake could respond, my phone buzzed in my pocket. I pulled it out and saw Emily’s name flashing on the screen.
Instead of answering normally, I put the call on speaker.
“Emily,” I said, my voice steady. “What’s going on?”
“Ma’am,” Emily’s voice came through. “I wanted to inform you that the shareholders have scheduled an urgent meeting for tomorrow morning.”
Scarlett, hearing Emily’s words, turned to my direction.
“What’s the agenda?” I asked.
Emily hesitated for only a second before continuing, “It’s about Scarlett, ma’am. They’re voting to remove her from her position due to multiple complaints from employees about workplace bullying. The evidence is overwhelming, and the média has presented undeniable proof.” Scarlett staggered forward as if the words had physically struck her.
“No…” she spat. “No, this can’t be happening.”
Emily continued, “There’s no stopping it now. The board is already leaning toward her removal. I just thought you should know.” Scarlett’s breathing turned ragged, her hands clenching and unclenching as if trying to hold on to the last strands of control.
I locked eyes with her and spoke firmly. “Thank you, Emily. I’ll be there.”
I ended the call.
Scarlett’s anger dissipated as she turned to me.
“My child, you can stop this,” she whispered. “You’re the CEO. Your words matter. If you stand with me, they won’t remove me.”
I let out a humorless chuckle. “And why would I do that, Scarlett?” I tilted my head, my gaze piercing. “After everything you’ve done? After the way you’ve treated people? There is evidence.”

She swallowed, her lips stuttering. “I…I was just strict. I never meant to bully anyone.”
“You abused your power,” I interrupted coldly. “You treated people as if they were beneath you. And now, you expect me to shield you from the consequences?”
Tears gathered in her eyes. “Please. I know I made mistakes, but I can change.”
I shook my head. “It’s too late for that.”
“Please, my child.” She begged and strolled to Jake but before she could speak, he walked out on her.
I turned to the maids who had been silently cleaning the flower vase and other sides of the sitting room. “Make sure Scarlett is taken care of tonight. And ensure that she arrives at the company safely and on time for the meeting tomorrow.”
The maids nodded.
Scarlett opened her mouth as if to argue, but I had already turned away.
I walked back to my room, but my mind was restless. I couldn’t stop thinking about Jake and how he would feel about everything. He was still young, and no matter how I felt about Scarlett, she was still his mother.
After a moment of deliberation, I turned on my heels and walked to his room. I knocked once before pushing the door open.
Jake sat on his bed, his head resting against the wall. He looked at me as I entered.
“You alright?” I asked, leaning against the doorframe.
Jake sighed. “I guess.”
I hesitated before speaking. “About Scarlett…”
Jake gave a slight shake of head. “You think I’m sad about that?” He shook his head. “I’ve known for a long time what kind of person she is. Yeah, she’s my mom, but that doesn’t mean I have to defend her when she’s in the wrong.”
I studied him, impressed by his maturity.
Jake shrugged. “I learned a long time ago that she doesn’t care about anyone but herself. If she loses her position, it’s her fault.”
I nodded. “I’m sorry if everything made you overwhelmed.” I said, approaching him.
Jake smirked. “It’s fine.” He strolled towards me and have me a hug that lasted for about 30 seconds.
“I support you.” He added, His words at least gave me some kind of courage of not looking like I was the evil one here.
The next morning, while I was about to leave for the office, Scarlett was looking messy She’s supposed to come with me but her eye bag was there due to so much crying and her skin looked pale. Her hair on the other hand was unkept.
I’ll be at the company later. “I’ll have Jake come with me.” She stated.
Of course she needed time to prepare because her face wasn’t looking presentable. But I was sure some little make up would help her out.
As I arrived at the company and was heading towards the conference room, Emily walked beside me, murmuring last–minute updates about the agenda.
“Everyone is present.” She stated.
“And Mr. Samuel?” I questioned.
Also present.” Her response made me nod.
As we stepped into the conference room, the air was thick with tension. The shareholders were already seated, their expressions serious. Their eyes shifted towards me as I entered.
But then, something made me stop in my tracks.
Among the shareholders, sitting as if he belonged there, was Alex.
What the hell was he doing here?
