“Miss Smith is a good person. She never meant to hurt anyone.
“When the company was on the brink of collapse, she was the one who did everything she could to keep it afloat.
“You’ll regret what you’ve done to her sooner or later.”
“Get out!” Scott bellowed. He hurled a vase across the room. “She’s the reason Eula suffered so much. How dare you defend her?”
Brian said nothing more. He simply shook his head and walked out of the home he’d served for twenty years.
Back in his study, bad news from the company kept flooding in.
Scott made calls and reached out for help, but the people who once bowed to him now ignored his calls.
Worse still, they mocked him for deserving what was coming.
He pressed his temples in frustration. “How the hell did Natalie pull this off?”
Piles of documents covered his desk, but none offered a shred of hope.
He couldn’t help but think about how I managed to salvage the company when it was failing.
His chest rose and fell irregularly. Furious, he kicked a chair over.
Soon, a feeling of unease crept in.
He wondered where I had gone.
He tried digging for information but found nothing.
When I married liin, I’d already broken ties with Ken and claimed to be an orphan.
No one knew where to find me now. That gnawed at him the most.
He received a message. For a second, his heart leapt. He thought maybe it was me finally reaching out and asking to come back.
After all, I used to love him so much. He was convinced I would eventually return.
But when he opened the message, it was a bank alert. His secondary credit card had just been used for a 6 million transaction. The limit had
been exceeded.
It was the card he’d given Eula.
He’d loaded it with a 20 million cap, but she’d already maxed it out.
His thoughts drifted back to me. I’d never been one to splurge. I was always careful with spending and never bought much for myself. I’d worn the same outfits for years, and he used to mock me for being plain and unfashionable.
Just then, Eula called. Her sweet, delicate tone now grated on his nerves.
