Eula sounded like an entitled brat.
Scott’s brows furrowed, but before he could get a word in, Eula had already hung up. She didn’t even leave room for a discussion.
Feeling exhausted, he closed his eyes. For the first time, he felt irritated by Eula.
She used to be soft–spoken and considerate.
Now, she felt like a stranger.
Leaning back in his chair, feeling helpless and worn out, images of me flashed through his mind. He could imagine the determined look in my
eyes.
“Natalie,” he murmured. He felt mixed emotions.
The news continued to report the ongoing crisis at Chapman Corp, with financial analysts offering one bleak forecast after another.
The flood of bad news was relentless. Every word he heard made it harder for him to breathe.
Meanwhile, I was enjoying dinner with Ken at a Michelin–star restaurant.
“Thanks, Ken,” I said while raising my glass.
“Thank you for always being there for me,” I added.
Ken smiled and reached over to ruffle my hair.
“Silly girl, what are you thanking me for? We’ve got a long road ahead. I’ll always be right here with you.”
I nodded and smiled. There was a warmth in my chest.
Ken set his glass down, and his expression turned serious.

My hand trembled slightly. I inhaled deeply.
