“Honey, why are you saying that? Have you stayed with me for nine years just to pay back a favor? Do you think I’d fall for such a silly lie?
Of course, he didn’t believe it.
If I didn’t love him, I wouldn’t act like a spoiled child, asking him for a kiss on the check every morning before he left.
I wouldn’t have waited outside the operating room, tearful and unwilling to leave, no matter what anyone said, while he was undergoing surgery.
It was obvious I loved him. I loved him so much that anyone could see how deeply I cared.
But what did he do?
The more I showed love, the more patient and understanding I was, and the more he trampled on my dignity.
He forgot that I was human, too.
The more I suffered, the number I became. Eventually, I stopped wasting my emotions on him.
With a forced smile that looked worse than crying, Zachary stared at me with red eyes.
“Queenie, I didn’t know Ruby’s presence would hurt you so much. We only had a one–night stand after drinking too much. I brought her home because of a moral obligation.

“Once she has the baby, I’ll help her move away. Is that okay?”
I shook my head firmly.
“Zachary, I don’t care about your relationship with Ruby.
“You just need to understand that I’ve started a new life here. I can’t go back with you, so you should leave now.”
“What new life? You-”
Zachary was furious. He hadn’t slept for two days, and with the blood loss from his tattoo, he was too weak to finish his sentence before he passed
out.
When he woke up again, it was 11:00 p.m.
He saw a glass of water on the bedside table that had been brought by the maid. Misunderstanding the situation, Zachary was relieved and got up to find me, despite feeling weak.
But when he climbed the spiral staircase to the rooftop, sweat dripping from his forehead, he was met with the sight of Calvin and me kissing.
His heart sank, and pain spread through him.
Zachary stumbled forward palely, grabbing Calvin’s collar and snarling. “What are you doing with Queenie?”
At that moment, Zachary could no longer fool himself. Calvin wasn’t just my old friend.
“How dare you touch my wife!”
Calvin was amused.

“Your wife? Zachary, do you truly see Queenie as your wife and care for
her?”
“You-”
Before Zachary could reply, Calvin, with his usual hot temper, punched. his left cheek.
“Mr. Conrad, if Queenie weren’t so kind–hearted, I would’ve thrown you out of the village to feed the wolves.
“Listen, Queenie is my fiancée now. No matter how much you harass her, she won’t even look at you.”
Zachary slowly lowered his fist, disbelief in his eyes.
“Is that true? Queenie, we’ve been apart for less than a month, and you’ve already accepted someone else’s proposal?”
I didn’t tell Zachary that the day I learned Ruby was pregnant. I had already accepted Calvin’s serious proposal through a video call across the
ocean.
I just leaned back lazily on Calvin’s broad shoulder, gave Zachary a small nod, and smiled meaningfully.
Zachary seemed stunned, trembling as he said, “Queenie, are you out of your mind?
You’re my
wife. I’ve never agreed to a divorce, but here you are, already involved with another man.
“How could you do this to me?”
