Chapter 8
“Why not?” I tilted my head and blinked leisurely.
“Do you think your approval matters to me? Zachary, you take yourself too seriously.
“I’m telling you one last time–you’re nothing to me. It’s truly over between
us.”
After that, I ignored Zachary, who seemed momentarily distracted and took Calvin’s hand tightly. Together, we turned around and continued to enjoy the moon and chat.
No one noticed or cared when Zachary left the manor.
But instead of going back to America, he bought a high–rise building nearby with a view of the grapevine fields.
His routine consisted of holding remote meetings with the American office and driving to the manor’s iron gate each day, showing up with various flowers or gifts–things I had mentioned to him in the past but never received.
I didn’t pay him any attention and didn’t change my plans because of him.
Nine years of a humble, misaligned marriage taught me one important lesson. A woman should never change her life’s path for a man.
I worked when necessary, socialized when needed, and prioritized my happiness above all else.
As for Zachary, I was sure his obsession with me was due to Victor

repeatedly urging him to beg for my forgiveness, unable to let go of the
past.
So, I called Victor, explaining that I was engaged and starting a new chapter. I also asked him not to feel guilty and not to let Zachary stay in England for nothing.
But despite my call, Zachary still waited outside the manor for a month, hoping to catch a glimpse of me through the car window.
The first to lose his patience was Calvin.
One night, after we’d just finished a party, we saw Zachary standing under a streetlamp holding the same white roses, as usual.
As I stepped out of the car, the sky suddenly lit up with a burst of rainbow fireworks.
Calvin, who had rewatched the video of Zachary’s proposal to me countless times, felt the sting of our past.
Back then, I had been dazzled by the fireworks and had joyfully accepted Zachary’s proposal.
Now, seeing me distracted by the fireworks, Calvin, who lacked security, couldn’t hold at Zachary, furious and resentful.

“Zachary! You’re shameless! All you want is for my fiancée to look at you! I’ve lived over 30 years and never met someone as pathetic as you!”
“If I’m pathetic, then what are you?” Zachary shot back. “Queenie and I have been together for nine years. If she hadn’t lost her fertility in that accident, I would never have agreed to Ruby having the child.
“Queenie just has some misunderstandings about me now. She thinks I betrayed her and no longer care for her, so she reluctantly accepted you,

her permanent backup.
“Once I clear this up, she’ll break off the engagement and come back to
me.”
Hearing that, Calvin sneered and punched Zachary to the ground.
When I lost the baby in the car accident, Calvin was the one who dropped everything and rushed to my side. He stayed with me the whole time until I got better and left the hospital.
Meanwhile, Zachary claimed he was swamped with work, but in reality, he took Ruby to Prague Square. They spent time sightseeing and enjoying the whole city together.
Even though I tried my best to stop the argument, the two of them kept fighting. Just then, a police car passed by.
One of the officers looked at Zachary, then quickly stepped out, broke up the fight, and took all three of us straight to a nearby hospital without asking any questions.
