Chapter 8
“Aunt?” Alfred’s voice shook a little.
My father runs businesses all around the world.
It was an open secret that he had a beloved daughter and an illegitimate daughter.
But one day, his beloved daughter suddenly left home and never returned.
After I left the house, my father rarely spoke about me, and the staff didn’t dare bring me up around him.
Eventually, people started saying he’d cut me off completely in a rage, and that Melissa had taken my place as his only daughter.
I stared at the broken vase and smirked. “Relax, brother–in–law. I had someone win this vase at the auction.
“It’s honestly one of the cheapest things here.
“Even a servant could cover the cost with half a year’s pay if they broke it.”
When I called him brother–in–law, Alfred clearly looked startled.
He moved toward me, but a few bodyguards stepped in and blocked him.
“You said you bought this vase? Wasn’t it Melissa who placed the bid?”
Melissa’s face went pale, then flushed with embarrassment.
Back then, I had personally asked my father for a favor. I wanted to buy Alfred’s artwork for a high price to give him some encouragement.

My father originally sent his bodyguard to help, but Melissa claimed she had never experienced an auction before and convinced him to let her go instead.
She brought the vase back and told the servant to place it somewhere barely noticeable.
I lifted my foot, planning to kick away the shattered remains, but I was suddenly lifted off the ground.
The sun filtered down as I caught the subtle smell of wood. Keiran had caught me in his arms.
“Don’t hurt yourself. Let me carry you,” he said.
As I held on to Keiran’s neck, Alfred’s fury boiled over. He tried to push past the bodyguards.
But they held him down easily like he weighed nothing at all.
His eyes burned with rage as he growled, “You’ve got no shame! We’re not even divorced yet and you’re already all over some guy!”
The people watching gasped in shock and started whispering to each other.
“We’ve been together for six years! And for all that time, you’ve been pretending to be broke! Just because I was poor, you got scared and hesitated about us, you ended up doing something so shameless. How can you do this to me?”
To Alfred, no matter what I did, I was always the one to blame.
He said he was planning for our future by having kids with another woman, but if someone else hugged me, I was the one without shame.
Besides, I wasn’t pretending to be poor. My father cut off my financial

support after I had an argument with him.
I went through three tough years with no complaints!
“Mr. Wexler, it seems you’ve forgotten. We have divorced a long time ago.”
He shouted. “I never sign the divorce papers! I don’t agree! No one can break us apart unless I say so. You’re still my wife!
“I was foolish to let Melissa get pregnant, that’s my fault. But I just wanted to take responsibility for every woman involved. That proves I’m a man who takes responsibility!”
Seeing Alfred try to explain himself made me want to laugh, it was just pathetic.
Right then, his phone started ringing.
Just as I predicted, today was their child’s welcome party, and I timed the lawsuit to begin precisely on this day.
“Mr. Alfred, since you didn’t show up in court, the proof submitted by the other side has been accepted. You’re considered at fault. The marriage is now officially dissolved. Please come collect your divorce certificate soon.”
