Peter rushed me to the hospital without hesitation. He only relaxed once the X–rays confirmed I had no major injuries.
As I saw his worried expression soften, I expressed my heartfelt appreciation, “I can’t thank enough for your help today, Mr. Shao.”

“It’s my responsibility to look after everyone,” he replied matter–of–factly with a slight nod. “It’s nearly six. I’ll drive you back so you can rest.”
I followed Peter back to my lodgings. After a quick meal, I
all into bed and drifted off to sleep.
The incident seemed to have made Peter even more vigilant. In the days that followed, he kept a close eye on our activities, as if trying to prevent any further mishaps. The remainder of the trip passed without incident.
As the tour concluded and everyone prepared to depart, Peter unexpectedly called out to me. “If you’re interested in another tour, reach out to me directly–I can offer you a discount.”
I was surprised by this business–oriented gesture from the usually distant Peter. Caught off guard, I nodded and added him to my social media contacts.
Just as I was about to leave, he stopped me again. “Are you free this weekend? I’d like to treat you to dinner.”
His invitation caught me by surprise. I never expected Peter to ask me out. I was about to decline when I noticed Jacob approaching from afar. I changed my mind.
“Alright, just send me the location, and I’ll meet you there.”
A glimmer of joy appeared in Peter’s eyes as he nodded and walked away.
As soon as Peter left, Jacob intercepted me, blocking my path.
“Who was that man? Why did you agree to dine with him?”
I had thought Jacob would have left after our last encounter, but he had apparently stayed nearby, waiting for my return. Seeing me talk to Peter seemed to have triggered his possessiveness, and he now confronted me, demanding answers in a harsh tone.
I frowned and responded coolly, “It’s not your concern.”
“How is it not my concern? We’re still married. I won’t let you meet other men!” he retorted.
For the first time, Jacob raised his voice at me, his eyes red with anger as if he might attack me. His sudden outburst startled me, causing me to step back instinctively.

Realizing his loss of composure, Jacob quickly softened his tone, guilt flashing across his face.
“I’m sorry, I lost my temper. But I can’t bear the thought of you seeing someone else.”
He then handed me a document, his voice sincere as he explained, “This is from the most respected medical institution. Your uterus truly had cancerous changes. I didn’t lie to you back then. The surgery was necessary to save your life. As for Daisy’s pregnancy, I only wanted her to keep it because I thought it might help ease your pain of not being able to have children.”
I glanced at the report. It bore the seal of a highly reputable institution, making it unlikely to be fake.
This revelation caught me off guard–I hadn’t expected that my uterus really had undergone cancerous changes. Jacob hadn’t deceived me after all.
“Larissa, you’re the most important person in my life. I would never intentionally harm you,” he continued, his voice full of emotion. “Daisy was just a mistake. I’ve ended all contact with her. She won’t interfere in our lives again. Please come back. I can’t imagine life without you.”
As he spoke, he reached for my hand, but I pulled away and increased the distance between us. “You know the saying, ‘Once a cheater, always a cheater. You betrayed my trust, and I can never forgive that. It’s up to you whether or not you sign the divorce papers, but stop meddling in my life.”
With that, I turned and walked away, leaving him standing there motionless.
