Chapter 13 Reporting to Her Husband
A deep, low voice came from the phone, making Claudia’s ear tickle. Then she froze.
“What gift?”

“A bouquet of flowers,” he said. “Simon just told me it’s already been delivered. Probably downstairs. Go take a look.”
Nero actually sent her flowers?!
Claudia was both shocked and thrilled. All her earlier frustration instantly vanished.
“I’ll go check!”
Nero could hear the excitement in her voice. His expression unconsciously softened.
Claudia, still holding her phone, headed downstairs–only to bump into Raine as she stepped out the door.
Raine was holding a flashy bouquet of flowers, also apparently on her way downstairs.
Claudia’s gaze locked on that bouquet.
“Where’d you get those flowers?”
Raine smiled smugly. “Mr. Nero sent them to me. Pretty, right?”
“Mr. Nero sent them to you?” Claudia looked skeptical.
Could Nero have seriously sent two bouquets–one for her, one for Raine?
Just the thought made her earlier frustration start to return.
Ignoring Raine, she rushed downstairs and asked, “How many flower deliveries just arrived?”
“Just one, of course.” Mandy glanced at Raine coming down behind her, caught on quick, and sneered. “Ma’am, you didn’t think that bouquet was for you, did you? Hate to break it to you, but it was clearly sent to Raine by Mr. Nero!”
The nearby housekeepers all subtly turned to watch, silently judging. It seemed this “Madam,” wasn’t much different from the
ones Lefore.
Look at that Mr. Nero sent flowers to Raine but not her.
They exchanged glances and smirks, waiting to see the drama unfold.
But when Claudia heard there’d only been one bouquet, she felt instantly vindicated. She spun around and held out a hand to Raine. “That’s not yours. Give it back.”
“Why wouldn’t it be mine? If it’s not mine, then what–yours?” Raine snorted and clutched the bouquet tighter. “This is from Amberton University. A reward from Mr. Nero for my upcoming admission! You want one? Try getting into Amberton
Claudia let out a sharp laugh. “Sorry to disappoint, but I got into Amberton last year. So yes, those flowers are definitely mine. Hand them over.”
Raine’s heart skipped a beat.
What
Claudia goes to Amberton too!
Even the maids watching fell silent,
Kane gripped the bouquet tighter, a bad feeling creeping in. But she still didn’t want to let go. “You saying it’s yours doesn’t make it true. Mr. Nero didn’t say anything!”

Claudia didn’t bother arguing anymore. She simply pulled out her phone and redialed the number from earlier.
Raine’s eyes widened. “Wait-!”
But the call had already connected.
Claudia spoke right away. “Honey, is the gift you sent me from Amberton University?”
She turned on speaker mode. Everyone nearby heard Nero’s voice clearly from the phone-
“Yes. Simon said a lot of students at your school wanted one, so I had one sent to you. Do you like it?”
Mandy’s jaw dropped slightly.
The other maids all turned toward Raine in unison.
Raine’s face went stiff. Her checks burned.
“I would like it, but it’s not in my hands,” Claudia said with a cool glance at her. “It got intercepted.”
Nero’s voice dropped slightly. Claudia could practically see him frowning-
“What happened?”
Claudia didn’t hesitate. “Raine has it. She said you sent it to her and refuses to give it back.”
“You–1” Raine looked like she wanted to slap a hand over her mouth.
Nero’s voice came through the phone again. “I’m coming home now.”
He hung up.
Raine’s face turned pale.
She knew Nero too well–his tone said it all. He was pissed.

She shot Claudia a furious glare, then shoved the bouquet into her arms without care. “Take it. Who even wants it?!”
Claudia smoothly stepped aside, not taking it. “Don’t want it? You sure? Because just now you seemed pretty pleased. You hold on to it–I’ll wait for Mr. Nero.”
With that, she calmly took a seat nearby.
Raine was fuming
Nero got back quickly.
The moment Claudia heard movement, she stood up. “You’re back!”
“Mm,” the man replied: Seeing her bright smile and relaxed expression, his cold features softened a bit.
Then his gaze swept over to Raine.
“Mr. Nero.. Raine–stood nervously, the bouquet now sitting on the coffee table.
“What happened?” Nero asked.
“I don’t know.” Claudia pouted and went over to push his wheelchair. Simon wisely stepped aside. “You told me you got me a gift, and I was so happy. Then Raine said it was for her. Didn’t you send that bouquet to me? How did it end up with someone else?”
Nero wanted to know too. He’d clearly ordered it for Claudia–to cheer her up. How had it gone to someone else?
His brows furrowed slightly. He looked at Raine, waiting for an explanation.

“L. I thought it was for me,” Raine said pitifully.
“You thought?” Nero repeated.

“Let’s say you misunderstood at first,” Claudia added, “but even after I told you it was mine, you didn’t give it back. Oh, and you mocked me too, remember? Said if it wasn’t yours, was it supposed to be mine? That I should try getting into Amberton first–that’s what you said, didn’t you?”
Raine froze.
She glared daggers at Claudia,
So what if she made a mistake? Did Claudia really have to make such a big deal out of it?
Claudia met her stare with a faint, icy smile.
If it really had been a misunderstanding, she could’ve let it go. But Raine’s attitude? Absolutely unacceptable. If she didn’t put her foot down, this girl would never take her seriously as the lady of the house,
Raine’s eyes turned red as she looked at Nero. “Mr. Nero, you promised you’d give me a gift…
He promised her a gifi too?
Claudia couldn’t help but glance at Nero, feeling a pang of jealousy.
He was usually so aloof, but he actually cared this much about Raine?
Nero noticed her look, hesitated slightly, then clarified, “I never promised you anything. When your acceptance letter came. you said you wanted a reward. I agreed out of respect for Wendy. But you never said what you wanted.”
So Raine asked for something herself, and he just casually agreed?
Claudia perked up again.
Raine’s cheeks burned with embarrassment.
The way Mr. Nero said that–it was like he couldn’t wait to distance himself from her.
“Say it now. What do you want?” Nero asked coolly, his patience running thin.
Raine glanced at Claudia, then bit her lip. “I want a bouquet exactly like hers!”
Claudia’s smile vanished. She snapped her head toward Nero.
This was the first time he’d ever sent her flowers!
If he really gave Raine the same bouquet, it’d completely ruin it for her.
She stared at him, eyes fierce and pitiful all at once, practically shouting. Don’t you dare.
