Chapter 14 Mr Nero, Act Like a Married Man
With a look that obvious, how could Nero not notice?
A hint of helplessness rose in his chest.
He’d never been one to worry about other people’s feelings, but the thought of Claudia growing unhappy, losing her bright and lively spirit and sinking back into gloom, made him say-
“Pick something else.”
Claudia felt her heart lighten. A smile curled at
d at the corners of her lips.
Raine was unwilling to give up and opened her mouth to argue–but the moment she met his gaze, her breath caught.
“…I haven’t decided yet,” she mumbled, biting her lip and lowering her head. She didn’t dare say more.
“Then wait until you do,” Nero said.
Then I’ll get back to work, Mr. Nero.” Raine turned to leave.
But Nero said, “Stop.”
Raine stiffened, uncase creeping up her spine.
Just then, Wendy walked over to speak up for her daughter. “Mr. Nero, Raine’s a bit spoiled by me and doesn’t always know better. I hope you won’t take it to heart.”
Nero looked up at her, calm and slow, his tone unreadable. “Wendy, you’re her mother. Since you know she lacks discipline, teach her. I don’t want to see her disrespect the lady of the house again. And I especially don’t want to see another incident like today.”
Wendy’s face shifted slightly,
She heard the warning loud and clear.
In the past, as long as she said something. Mr. Nero would usually show her some courtesy. But today, he was clearly angry. He didn’t care about saving face, even scolding her in front of the servants.
She quickly lowered her head. “Yes, Mr. Nero. I’ll make sure to teach Raine properly”
Nero gave a slight nod, “Go on, then.”
Wendy hurriedly pulled Raine away.
Nero glanced at the bouquet set off to the side and held out his hand.
Simon understood immediately and brought it over.
It was a beautiful bouquet–fiery red, like a bundle of romantic roses.
Before Claudia could even react, the flowers were right in front of her.
She stared blankly down.
When she didn’t take it. Nero looked slightly puzzled. “You don’t like it?”
Claudia’s heart skipped a beat. “I do!”
She carefully pulled the bouquet into her arms, her slender fingers gently brushing the delicate petals. The more she looked, the more she liked it.
Nero looked at her face, even lovelier than the flowers, and asked, “Happy now?”

Simon chimed in from the side, “Mr. Nero noticed you seemed a little upset this morning, so he had the flowers prepared.”
Claudia froze, surprised that there had been so much thought behind the gift.
Her heart felt warm and full, and she suddenly thought of her past life.
How much had he done for her in secret, without her ever knowing!
Seeing her remain silent, Nero’s brow twitched slightly. “If you don’t like it-
Before he could finish, a warm floral scent rushed over him as the girl threw her soft body into his arms.
“I love it! Thank you, honey!”
Whatever he was about to say vanished into thin air. His tall frame went slightly stiff–but he didn’t push her away.
go
In fact, it was Claudia who got embarrassed. She quickly pulled back, her face flushed red. “I’ll go put the flowers away!” And with that, she bolted up the stairs, her footsteps quick and light.
Raine, just finishing a conversation with Wendy and heading back to her room, saw Claudia run past clutching that bouquet. Her teeth clenched in frustration.
A notification popped up in her group chat.
Cherry: “@Raine, when are the flowers coming? I’m so looking forward to them!”
Annoyed. Raine furiously typed a reply.
Raine: “Sorry, something unexpected came up. I won’t be able to send them after all.”
Claudia returned to her room, arranged the bouquet, then came back downstairs–and saw Nero was still there.
She hesitated for a moment, then walked over and sat in the single–seater beside him–the closest spot to his side.
“You put it in your room?” he asked..
“Mm–hmm!” Claudia nodded, then her delicate brows pinched together with worry. “But I’m afraid it might wilt soon just sitting there. Maybe I should find a bigger vase and keep them in water? That might help them last longer.”
Seeing how seriously she was thinking about it–clearly treasuring the flowers–Nero’s cold expression softened a bit. “What had you upset this morning?” he asked.
Hearing that, Claudia glanced at him, then pulled out her cheeks and mumbled something under her breath.
“What?” Nero didn’t catch it
Claudia lifted her head and raised her voice a little, sounding both indignant and pouty, “I said, why’d you have Raine help you change your dressing last night?!”
Her cheeks puffed up even more. “You have a wife, don’t you? How can you let another woman do something like that? Can’t you at least act like a married man?”
Simon, who’d been quietly sipping water nearby, choked hard.
Both Claudia and Nero turned to look at him.
Nero narrowed his eyes slightly,
Simon panicked, quickly put down his cup, grabbed the folder on the table, and stood up straight. “Ahem. Mr. Nero. I’ll just go put these in the study

he was in the way. Nero turned his gaze back, feeling slightly dazed. Something stirred in his chest.
pped away, not daring to linger even for a second–worried that “married man” Mr. Nero might decide
“…You were upset because of that?”
“Isn’t that enough to be upset about?” Claudia muttered, her tone suddenly softening, her bright, beautiful eyes dimming. “Or do you think since we’re not legally married yet, I don’t count as your wife?”
“That’s not what I think,” Nero said.
The usually cold, decisive Mr. Nero now looked a bit lost.
Looking at his quiet, unhappy little wife, he sighed. “I didn’t ask her to change my dressing. It’s always been Belle. Last night he had something urgent and had to leave early, so I told him to get a maid. Who told you I asked for Raine?”
“Really?” Claudia’s head snapped up, eyes instantly lighting up again.
Really,” he said his voice unconsciously gentle.
Claudia broke into a bright smile. She tugged on his arm and asked sweetly. “Then when are we going to get our marriage certificate?”
Her tone was casual, but her face was flushed with a hint of shyness.
Nero paused, then said evenly, “When my leg heals.”
Moments later, she was bouncing up the stairs, ready to find a big vase for her bouquet
Nero watched her graceful figure fade out of sight, and his gaze slowly darkened.
Thinking about his own condition, his hand tightened slightly on the armrest, a shadow crossing his face.
He closed his eyes, his entire body cloaked in a heavy gloom.
A marriage certificate?
Someone like him, with one foot in the grave–did he really have the right to tie down a girl like her?
He hadn’t cared about the others before.
But this time–with Claudia–he hesitated.
