Isabella’s POV
have something to tell you, Izzie Alex murmured softly, bringing me out of my thoughts
I hummed in response to let him know that I was listening as I watched the playing squirrels nearby
We were back at that park. I refused to allow Marcus taint that happy place for me.
So Alex had insisted that he come with me. He had even posted some security guards around. I couldn’t see them, but he said they were close.
“Izzie,” he said again, voice quieter now, and he sounded very reluctant. “I need you to know the truth. I didn’t ask to marry you for revenge.”
That pulled my attention.
I turned to him slowly, searching his eyes. They were sincere, and there was something in them that made my chest tighten painfully.
“I asked to marry you because-*
A sharp noise pierced through the air.
It was soft, and subtle. I didn’t pay it any mind, but Alex’s eyes widened with fear.
“Get down!” he growled, and shoved me hard to the side.
His expression changed in an instant, changing into pure panic.
A loud crack echoed as the bullet tore through the air and struck him. The bullet was meant for me, but Alex had taken it instead.
I screamed as he stumbled backward, one hand holding his bleeding side. Blood was already soaking through his shirt
My blood ran cold.
“No–no, no, no–!*
But Alex didn’t stop moving. He turned. His eyes were wild, and blazing with fury.
The man who had fired the shot stood just a few feet away. He was dressed like a jogger, and he was about to shoot at me again when Alex slammed into him with heavy force with a roar of fury.
They crashed to the ground together.
Alex didn’t hesitate. Despite the bullet wound on the stomach, he unleashed his anger on the
man.
He threw heavy punches over and over mercilessly
The assassin didn’t even have time to struggle as Alex was relentless and brutal.
Alex’s fists crashed into his face with such force that I flinched with every hit.
By the time some guards arrived (the ones that Alex had posted nearby for protection), the man was barely breathing.
“Secure him!” one of the guards snapped. Another guard immediately called for backup on a

radio. “Shots fired. Mr. Pierce is down. We need medics now. I repeat, we need medics now!”
They dragged the unconscious body away as I ran to Alex, my heart pounding.
He collapsed.
“Alex!” I dropped to my knees beside him, grabbing his face. “No–no, stay with me, okay? You’re going to be okay, the ambulance is coming, just–just hold on.”
His blood covered my hands as I tried to put pressure on the wound.
One of the guards pressed something against the wound, but that didn’t seem enough.
His breathing was shallow, and his eyes fluttered like he could barely stay conscious.
“Look at me,” I begged, my voice breaking as tears welled up in my eyes. “Look at me, Alex. Don’t you dare close your eyes.”
He looked at me, and then he smiled. His eyes shone with that emotion that I always noticed whenever he stared at me.
“Izzie…” he whispered, his voice sounded so weak. Nothing like the Alexander I knew.. “I didn’t ask you to marry me for revenge…”
“I heard you,” I whispered, brushing hair from his face with my other hand.
“I ask you to marry me… because I loved you,” he choked out. “I always did. Since the very first moment we met. When Marcus had you, it drove me mad because he had you, and he didn’t even realize the rare gem he was holding.”
My heart cracked, and the tears began to fall.
“That’s the main reason I hated Marcus. He did other things to me that were so terrible, but this.. this is the main reason I hated him. So I-” His voice faltered, and he began to close his eyes.
“No,” I said quickly, shaking him. “No, no, no. You stay awake. Alex, please–I love you too-”
But he didn’t hear me.
I watched as his eyes closed, and his hand slipped from mine.
I screamed.
