Chapter 12
June’s POV
I stared at myself in the mirror. I looked gorgeous in the wedding dress that I had picked. A bitter smile crossed my lips; I couldn’t believe that I was going through with all these. I had agreed to get married to a stranger that I barely knew–who turned out to be the boss of the Italian mafia. All of these just to get revenge. Was it worth it, or was I just ruining my life even further?
I
For a brief second, doubt crept into my mind.
I pulled out my phone and opened a photo of Ethan, My baby boy, whose life was cut short because of Richard and April.
Richard was right–Ethan had been sick. He had a heart condition, and we had been searching for a heart transplant for him, but his blood type was so rare that it was nearly impossible to get a heart for him. According to the doctors, he had five years to live.
However, none of these justified Richard’s actions. He had stolen those five years that I should have had with my son, and his actions had killed my unborn child. My mind flashed back to the hopelessness and pain I had felt when I had that miscarriage weeks ago.
My grip on the phone tightened, and I clenched my jaw. Everything I was doing was worth it. I would not allow them to go scot–free after ruining my life, and killing my children.
There was no time for second guessing. It was time to get married.
Killian stared at me from across the hall with an unreadable look in his eyes as I walked down the aisle. I could feel so many eyes on me, but I did my best to ignore them as I approached Killian with nervousness and anxiety coursing through me.
He gave me a small encouraging nod as he held my hands and began reciting his vows. I never knew it was going to be this hard. As Killian said his vows, tears welled up in my eyes as I remembered Richard doing the same when we were getting married. He had said those vows so sincerely, and I fell for it, but look at how it had turned out.
Killian squeezed my hands gently, silently offering encouragement and support.
When it was my turn to say my vows, I cleared my throat as I prepared to say my fake vows that meant nothing to me.
1-”
A loud bang outside, cut me short, and I furrowed my eyebrows. Killian tensed immediately, his eyes sharpened as he became on high alert. Murmurs and whispers arose as everyone became tense. My heart pounded in my chest.
Another loud bang caused me to flinch, and Killian moved in front of me protectively.
There was another crash, followed by shouting.
Killian didn’t hesitate. He pulled out a gun from a hidden pocket in his suit.
The doors burst open, and gunshots rang through the air. People screamed as they ducked and
ran for cover. My breath caught as Richard stormed in with several armed men.
My entire body froze in shock as I held onto the sleeve of Killian’s suit.

Richard’s eyes were wild, and blazing with fury. He aimed a gun straight at Killian,
“Step away from her, Killian,” he ordered, his voice shaking with rage.
Killian chuckled darkly, he didn’t even move an inch. “You really thought you could just walk into
my wedding and take my bride? That’s quite stupid of you, Richard.”
Richard clenched his jaw. “She’s my wife, and you cannot do anything to me.”
“She was your wife,” Killian corrected, sounding amused even though his gray eyes were cold. “She signed the divorce papers, meaning that she doesn’t want to be your wife anymore.” Richard’s hand tightened around the gun. I could see his men spreading out behind him, with their large guns.
“June.” Richard turned his attention to me. His expression softened as he began pleading with me. “Come with me, baby. This isn’t you. You don’t belong here. We can work things out.”
I was surprised that I could even speak. “And I belonged with you? A man who killed my son? A man who betrayed me?”
८
Richard flinched. “It wasn’t like that, June. You know I did what I had to do-”
Killian stepped forward, cutting him off. “You’re wasting your breath. She’s not leaving with you.”
Richard’s lips curled into a sneer. “Then I’ll just have to take her back by force.”
He raised his gun, but Killian was faster. He shoved me to the side just as Richard shot the gun.
Chaos erupted everywhere.
Killian’s guards burst into the room, shooting down Richard’s men. The wedding hall became a battlefield with bullets flying around.
My heart raced in my chest, and fear surged through me as I ducked behind a table that had been flipped.
I peeped from the side of the table. Killian moved so effortlessly, dodging bullets and firing back easily. Richard’s men fell one by one. It was obvious that Richard had not expected Killian to have this many guards. He really had no idea about who Killian was.
I crawled toward the exit, but I was blocked by Richard.
His eyes were frantic and desperate as he glanced around. “Stand up, you’re coming with me, June.” He ordered, pointing the gun at me.
“No.” I said, my voice shook. “I’m never going with you again, I would rather die.”
He released a growl, and something in his eyes snapped. He raised his gun again. “Don’t make me hurt you, June.” He threatened.
I glared up at him fiercely, even as my heart pounded in my chest. I didn’t want to die, but I was not going back with Richard.
“Leave me alone.” I spat venomously.
BANG!
A sharp, burning pain surged through me, and I gasped.
My eyes were wide as I stared down at my chest where my wedding dress was slowly turning red from blood.

Richard’s eyes widened in shock, and he stared at the gun in his hand in horror. “No… no, no, no didn’t mean-”
“June!” Killian roared in fury.
I collapsed to the floor, breathing heavily as my vision blurred. Killian was suddenly there, and his hands were pressing against my wound to slow the blood flow.
“Stay with me, amore,” he murmured, sounding panicked. “Don’t you dare die on me, please.”
I tried to speak, but I couldn’t as pain filled my whole body. Darkness crept into my vision, and nc matter how much I struggled to stay awake, I knew it was fruitless.
The last thing I saw was Richard being dragged away, screaming my name, and Killian begging me to stay awake.
Then–everything went dark.
