Chapter 16
I stared at the TV screen, my heart pounding in my chest. It was all happening so fast.

I covered a hand over my mouth, as several emotions moved inside me. I felt so much relief, and joy. Justice had finally been served. Ethan’s innocent face appeared on the screen, and my ches tightened. My baby boy was finally avenged. It was enough, but it would have to do for now. Beside me, Killian released a scoff as he leaned back against the couch. “Well, that was easier than I expected.”
I turned to him, watching as he smirked mischievously. He looked completely calm, like he hadn’t just detonated a bomb that had sent the entire Thorne empire crumbling.
“But it was a huge accomplishment.” I said.
“Oh please, it’s nothing.” Killian said, waving it off.
“Nothing?” I repeated incredulously. “We just took down one of the most powerful mafia families in America. Richard is going to prison. The Thorne family investors are pulling out. This is huge.”
Killian shrugged. “Maybe, it is. But he deserved worse, and we’re not done yet. April escaped.” A chill ran down my spine at the coldness of his voice, and I nodded slowly.
I released a sigh as I glanced at my phone down on the table. The messages had been nonstop -reporters, paparazzi, people I didn’t know, all reaching out to me after the evidence went public.
“I still can’t believe it,” I muttered, rubbing my temples. “It’s actually happening. People believe
us.”
Killian glanced at me, furrowing his eyebrows. “Of course, they do. The evidence was undeniable. Now, Richard has nowhere to run.”
I snorted in amusement. “You’re Killian Romano. If I had been the one to send that evidence, no one would have taken it seriously. But with you in the picture, everything became totally different.” I protested.
Killian stayed silent at my words.
I turned back to the TV screen, watching as reporters discussed the downfall of Richard Thorne. My phone buzzed again, and I reached for it with an exhausted sigh. It was probably another message from a reporter.
But instead, it was a message from an unknown number.
“You think this is over? You think you’ve won? You have no idea what you’ve done. Watch your back, June.”
My breath hitched, and my heart raced in my chest.
Killian must have noticed the expression on my face because he moved closer to me.

“Amore, what is it?” He asked with concern in his voice.
My hand shook as I handed him the phone. His fingers brushed against my wrist as he took the phone from my hand. His jaw tightened as he read the message, and his body tensed.
He exhaled through his nose, gripping the phone tightly. “It looks like we might still have a little
issue.”
“Do you think it’s… April?” I asked, running a hand through my hair.
Killian nodded slowly. “Makes sense.”
I furrowed my eyebrows. “Do you think she has the resources to do anything?” I asked.
He shrugged. “I don’t really know.”
I swallowed hard. “What do we do?”
He turned to me with an intense look in his eyes. “We wait. And we don’t let our guard down.”
He placed his hand on mine, “I won’t let anything happen to you, June.” He swore.
I nodded slowly. “I know,” I said softly. I believed him.
Killian’s gaze stayed on me for a moment, as he watched my face, then he smiled.
“We’ll deal with whatever comes next,” he said, placing my phone face–down on the table. “But for now, we should celebrate.”
I blinked. “Celebrate?”
He leaned back on the couch. “Why not? We just destroyed Richard’s life, April is on the run. Richard’s empire is crumbling, his reputation is ruined, and he’s most likely going to go to prison for a while. That deserves a drink, don’t you think?”
I hesitated for a moment, but then I exhaled, releasing some of the tension in my body. He was right. We had won a battle today, and we deserved to breathe, even if it was just for a little while. “Alright,” I agreed with a small smile. “Let’s celebrate.”
Killian grinned with delight, standing up from the couch. “That’s my girl.”
My heart skipped a beat at his words, but I ignored it as I watched him walk over to the small bar in the living room. He grabbed a bottle and two glasses. He returned, pouring us each a drink.
“To victory and to justice,” he said, raising his glass.
“To victory, and to justice,” I repeated, clinking my glass against his before I took a sip.
One drink turned into two. Then three.
I lost track of the number of drinks we had as we exchanged stories about our past, and we laughed at the ridiculous ones.
The room felt warm, my limbs were light. I knew I was drunk, and so was Killian.
“You are an awesome person, June.” Killian murmured drunkenly.
I gave him a lazy smile. “You are an amazing person, Killian.” I drawled, giggling.
When I turned my head to look at him, I found him already staring at me with a deep emotion in his eyes.
I gulped.
Something in the air shifted
“June” he murmured, his voice lower, softer, and my heart reced
Killian reached out, and tucked a strand of hair behind my ear I breathed sharply as his gaze dropped to my lips.
We weren’t real couples, after we were done with everything, we would go our seperate ways. I thought to myself,
I I should pull away, I should stop this before we cross a line we couldn’t uncross
But I didn’t pull away, I couldn’t pull away,
Instead, I leaned in, and so did he. Then we kissed
