Chapter 5
Through the excruciating pain, Bailey used her blood–stained hand to grasp Alexander’s immaculate pant leg, her voice barely a whisper. “Alexander, I hate your
Alexander froze momentarily before silently shaking off her hand.
“Don’t move. The stretcher will be here soon“]
Looking at the pool of bright red blood on the ground, Alexander felt an unfamiliar pang in his heart, a stinging ache he’d never experienced before. It suddenly dawned on him; she really seemed to want this baby
Just as this thought surfaced, Stella appeared beside him.[
Her eyes were full of expectation: “Alexander, are we doing
ng Evan’s surgery tonight?”
Alexander cast one final glance at Bailey
After only a second’s deliberation, he made his decision
Bailey lay on the stretcher, hearing his gentle voice: “Don’t worry, Evan will be fine.“]
In that moment, something inside Bailey’s heart shattered completely
Soon after, Bailey was wheeled into the operating room.
She cried and struggled until a sedative was injected into the back of her neck. Her entire body went limp and her mind foggy.
Her clothes were removed, fresh blood already pooling beneath her.
The medical staff’s conversation drifted into Bailey’s ears as if from far away:
“A C–section on a six–month pregnancy?||
“What choice do we have? The mother’s a lunatic who jumped out a window.”
She watched as a bloody bundle was extracted from her body and placed on a cold stainless steel tray []
The doctor covered the infant with a white cloth and wheeled it away on a small cart
A tiny, reddish hand hung limply from beneath the cover, and for a split second, Bailey thought she saw the fingers twitch.
In that instant, Bailey felt as though a thousand arrows had pierced her heart:
“My baby.”
She thrashed wildly, rolling off the operating table.]
Despite the searing pain below, she desperately tried to reach her child.]
But the medical staff held her back
Soon, another sedative was pushed into her body
A nurse asked:
“Did that baby’s hand just move?
“It can’t survive, Just six months–de–finately won’t make it“]
“Just take it away for disposal and let’s get the placenta out.“[]
Badey was strapped to the operating table as a hand reached side her and forcefully removed the placenta

A heart wrenching scream tore from her throat.
The pain was soul shattering, and Bailey finally lost consciousness.
When she next awoke, Bailey found herself in a hospital gown, lying in a hospital bed
She placed her hands on her now–flat belly.
The once full heavy belly that had carried her child was now empty.
In the end, she couldn’t protect her baby.
She hit down hard on her lip, tears silently streaming into her hair.
Alexander sat by her bedside, his heart uncharacteristically heavy, like a ball of cotton stuffed in his chest.
He took an apple, peeled it, and offered it to her lips.
In the past, whenever he angered her, he rarely apologized directly. Peeling an apple and feeding her had been his way of making amends.
Once she ate the apple, it meant she had forgiven him.]
But now, the once easily placated woman treated him like air, red–eyed as she turned her face away.
Time ticked by as the apple slowly browned in the air []
Alexander’s patience finally ran out. He
put th
the apple down and roughly grabbed her chin, forcing her to look at him
His voice remained gentle, as if reasoning with a disobedient child: “Bailey, we’ll have more children in the future. Right now, the most important thing is treating Evan’s illness. You understand and won’t make things difficult for me, right?”
Bailey stared at him with empty eyes.]]
Once, she had begged so pathetically, so desperately for mercy. She couldn’t believe a child’s father could be so heartless
But now her empty belly told her everything had been in vain.]
From beginning to end, he had worn this mask of gentleness while inflicting the world’s cruelest acts upon her…]
Perhaps as compensation, Alexander stayed with her until the doctor came to inform them that Evan’s surgery was about to begin
His brow furrowed as he looked reluctantly at Bailey, who still refused to meet his gaze
“Bailey, saving a living person is always more important than an unhorn child. Think about ]
The door closed behind him again.
Bailey’s chest heaved violently as tears slid into her hair.
After a long morgent, she picked up her phone and dialed a number, her voice carrying the stillness of death
“Mr. Carter? This is Bailey Cox. I need you to draft divorce papers for me.“[]
