A moment later, he held out a strawberry cake to me with both hands.
“Sophia, don’t always think about death. Date me, okay? Let’s experience the sweetness this world has to offer, alright?”
His eyes were so bright, and when he smiled, it was as if he could silently influence your emotions.
I nodded, agreeing to his words.
But I’m sorry, Gavin, I eventually broke my promise.
I really wanted to keep this promise with him because after being with him, my depression started to improve. I could clearly feel myself getting better.
I knew all of this was because of Gavin’s care for me.
He would make all kinds of delicious food for me.
He would rack his brains to tell jokes to make me happy and laugh.
He would make my favorite strawberry cake for me every day and always tell me,
“I like you.”
His love wasn’t passionate or dramatic, but it made me feel that I was still worthy of being loved.
“Sophia, let’s spend the rest of our lives together, okay?”
He took me to watch the sunrise from a mountaintop, and as the sun came up, he got down on one knee and proposed to
- me.
The diamond ring wasn’t expensive, but at that moment, it brought tears to my eyes.
I cried.
When everyone else wanted me dead, finally someone wanted me to live on.

But this hope, which had been so hard to ignite, was eventually extinguished,
Once again, extinguished by Lucas.
Just as Gavin and I were returning from watching the sunrise, we unexpectedly found Lucas standing at my front door. When he saw the ring on my finger, his face darkened. He strode over to me.
Before I could react, he reached out and violently pulled the ring off my finger, throwing it onto the lawn.
At the same time, another sharp slap landed on my face.
“Sophia, have you no shame!”
Gavin quickly got into a fight with him.

In a daze, I heard Gavin’s voice.
“What right do you have to throw away our ring? Who the hell do you think you are to come and destroy my happiness!”
This farce eventually ended with my intervention.

I asked Gavin to go home first because I had some things to say to Lucas.
After Gavin left, Lucas’s furious shouts came at me.
“Sophia, how can you be so disgusting? You killed my sister and yet you dare to seek happiness?”
“Do you deserve it? Sophia, why don’t you look in the mirror and see if you deserve any of this?”
In his world, I naturally didn’t deserve anything – not someone else’s love, nor the right to live in this world.
But what broke my heart was how he could say such things to me.
I raised my hand and slapped him hard across the face as soon as he finished speaking.
He probably didn’t expect me to do this, and his face was caught off guard by my slap.
When he looked at me again, his eyes were full of disbelief.
That was the first time I fought back against him, and it would be the last.
Because I knew that as long as I was alive, I could never escape the hell that was Lucas.
“Lucas, I will make you suffer for the rest of your life. One day, you will pay the price for these words you’ve said.”
“And the person who doesn’t deserve to live in this world has never been me, but you.”
