Chapter 12
At the mention of my name, Drake frowned.
“Why are you bringing her up? All she cares about is money. Always fighting to prove herself at work, trying to replace me—when has she ever acted like a real wife? Thank God I have you.”
My grip tightened on the doorframe, knuckles turning white.
So that’s what he thought all along–that everything I did was just to compete with him.
All those years of love and loyalty… wasted.
Penelope pressed her curvy figure against him, trailing soft touches down his back.

Comforting? Hardly. It was seduction, plain and simple.
Drake’s throat bobbed as he lifted her onto his lap. “It’s been over three months. It’s time the baby met his dad.”
Penelope moaned sweetly and kissed him. “Drake, I know this is wrong… but I love you more than I love being right.”
His eyes fluttered. Moved, no doubt.
They sank into each other, the Moonlight Pearls tumbling to the floor.
Soiled pearls? I didn’t want them anymore.
As for the man–he was already filth. Let him go.

My arms dropped limply. Like a ghost, I walked back to the bedroom and started packing.
I didn’t sleep all night. When the sun finally flooded every corner of the living room, I sat there in silence, suitcase by my side.
Drake finally emerged, supporting Penelope.
He flinched slightly when he saw me. “When did you get back?”
“You ran off after causing a scene, so I spent the whole night watching over Penelope for you. Since you’re back now, go cook her some porridge. She didn’t eat much last night–worried sick about you.”
I scoffed internally. Didn’t she just have quite the feast last night?

Penelope’s voice was gentle. “Eloise, what matters most between husband and wife is understanding. Drake was worried about you too. Just apologize and let it go.”
My eyes narrowed at the Moonlight Pearls in her hand. “You really think someone as shameless as you has the right to lecture me? And who said you could take my stuff?”
Drake stepped forward and slapped me across the face.
“Eloise, how dare you disrespect Penelope! You stressed her out so much she’s risking a miscarriage. What’s wrong with letting her wear the pearls for a while?”
I touched my cheek and gave a dry laugh. “Those pearls were my mother’s keepsake!”
Guilt flickered across Drake’s face. “Eloise, I…

Are you okay? I only lashed out because you spoke to Penelope like that…”
He reached out to touch me, but I shoved the divorce papers into his hand.
“Save it. Just sign.”
His face darkened. He shoved the papers back at me.
“I’m not getting a divorce. You’re still Mrs. Sullivan. Once Penelope gives birth, she’ll leave the country. Nothing between us will change. You’ve already gained so much- what more do you want?”
“Look around–every guy in our circle has mistresses. I made one mistake and you’re going to blow up the whole marriage over it?”
I let out a long breath. “Let me ask one last

time–will you sign the divorce papers or not?”
When he said nothing, just stared at me coldly, I took out my phone, ready to show him the video. If he didn’t sign, I’d use that as evidence in court.
Before I could find the file, Penelope cried out:
“Drake, my stomach–something’s wrong!”
Drake’s hands shook as he called the family doctor, dropping to his knees beside her. “What’s happening? You were fine!”
Penelope’s eyes locked on me like a snake’s. “Could it be the Moonlight Pearls? My baby…”
I nearly laughed. What is this–some cheap soap opera?

But Drake believed it. He ripped the pearls off her wrist and hurled them at me.
“Did you do something to these? Are you trying to make her lose the baby?!”
The pearls hit my forehead. The moonlight pearls fell to the ground.
I let out a hollow laugh. They stole my mother’s heirloom, and now I’m the villain?
“You’re still laughing? You’re disgusting!”
I raised an eyebrow, playing along. “Well, if you don’t sign those divorce papers, who knows what I might do to your precious Penelope?”
Drake rubbed his temples, his expression full of disappointment. “Eloise… When did you

become such a stranger? Fine. You win.”
He finally picked up the papers and signed them. The weight on my chest lifted.
Just then, the doctor arrived and calmly began examining Penelope.
I didn’t leave. Instead, I leaned back on the sofa, relaxed.
After all, I wasn’t about to take the fall for this mess.
