**Chapter 7**
Suddenly, my wrist was seized by a thin but strong hand, startling me.
The man’s voice, though hoarse, was now coherent enough for communication. I immediately called a colleague to arrange a detailed
examination.
I had been taking care of the man almost sleeplessly for days. Now that I confirmed he was basically fine, the relief washed over me, and
exhaustion almost knocked me out.
I returned to my dorm room. My former home had been quickly sold by Julian after the divorce, practically given away due to his rush to sell. Just like our relationship, it had become ridiculously cheap once it soured.
After sleeping for several days in the dorm, I finally felt somewhat refreshed and decided to check on the man in the hospital room again.
To my surprise, I saw Julian standing outside the dorm entrance, holding a bouquet of fiery red roses. His expensive three–piece suit couldn’t conceal his haggard appearance.
“Cassandra! You’re finally back.” Seeing me, his expression brightened. He tried to thrust the roses into my arms.
I quickly took two steps back, covering my nose. “Stay away from me. I’m allergic to roses.”
Julian’s smile froze on his face, but he wouldn’t give up. He could only toss the roses into the trash can.
“What are you doing here?” I crossed my arms, watching him warily.
“Cassandra, I’m so sorry! What happened with Blair hurt you, but I’ve broken it off with her now. Please give me a chance. Let’s start over!” Though Julian struggled to control his expression, the fleeting contortion and disgust on his face when he mentioned Blair did not escape my notice.
“Marry you again, then sell my company shares to pay off your debts–is that the ‘starting over‘ you mean?” My face was filled with sarcasm. “High–interest loans aren’t easy to come by, are they?”
Julian seemed to grasp a lifeline, pleading, “Cassandra, I took out those loans all for you, for our home! It’s all Blair’s fault, that bitch! If she bdn’t tricked all of us, how could I owe money? Please believe me one more time!”
“You bitch! It’s you! It must be you who set this up!” Blair suddenly appeared out of nowhere, her hair disheveled, her expression crazed.
She shoved me to the ground. Caught off guard, my elbow scraped hard against the floor, blood welling up.
“What could I have set up? I just knocked out a crazy person to keep him from biting people.” I struggled to my feet, glaring directly at the two of them.
“You were reborn too, weren’t you?” My enigmatic smile made Blair shudder, suddenly realizing the crux of the matter.
She shrieked hysterically, flailing her arms, trying to rush over and grab my neck.
Julian’s eyes were bloodshot. “Did you prevent the apocalypse just to ruin all of us? When did you become so vicious? Do you realize all the stuff we hoarded is unsellable now, and we’re stuck with it?!”
The research Institute’s security guards finally noticed the commotion in the dorm building. The lead guard recognized me and surrounded me, glaring at Julian and Blair.
1 let out a soft laugh. “What the hell does that have to do with me? Keep that ‘vicious‘ label for yourselves, no returns.”
The two were dragged away, I smiled, sauntered back to the hospital room to relieve my colleague, and was in such a good mood that Lavan hummed a tune while hooking up the man’s IV.
“What’s got you so happy?” It was Asher’s first time speaking to me since he woke up, but I just smiled faintly. “Someone got their just desserts. Watching it makes me happy.”
As I grew more familiar with Asher, Julian’s attempts to reach me became more frequent. He messaged me repeatedly, repenting, promising that if I helped him clear his debts, he’d never get involved with other women again and would be devoted to me.
I replied with one sentence: “You made the same promise when we lived in that basement back then.” Then I blocked and deleted him.
His core nature hadn’t changed all these years. Power went straight to his head.
The matters at the research institute were temporarily settled, giving me some free time to deal with company affairs.
As soon as I arrived at the company, I saw Julian pushing a wheelchair, accompanied by Blair and Eleanor Davies, blocking the company entrance, not allowing anyone inside.
When a security guard tried to ask them to leave, Eleanor Davies threw herself on the ground and refused to budge, no matter who tried to pull
her up.
“What are you doing?” I raised an eyebrow, looking at them. Seeing me, the grand show could finally begin.
