Chapter 9

Everyone in the Harrison household knew I had spent the night in Ben’s room.
Ben took me directly to meet his family, announcing to everyone in a matter–of–fact tone that we were getting married.
Matt’s expression looked terrible.
My best friend Sarah pulled me into her room for a long chat, finally asking me with concern: “Are you really sure about this?”
“Of course I’m sure. I like Ben, and not just because of you.”
“Though you are definitely an important reason.”
Sarah hugged me and said: “Taylor, I’ve always wanted you to be happy.”
“I’m thrilled you’re here at the Harrison house, but I want you to find true happiness even more.”
“I don’t really know my brother–in–law that well. Matt respects his older brother deeply and never says much about his affairs.”
“But I’ve vaguely heard some rumors about his past. He’s not as simple as you think.”
I patted my best friend’s back: “I know everything you’re telling

“I’ve already made up my mind, so don’t worry.”

Ben was decisive in his actions. The next day, he took me to get our marriage certificate.
Holding the red certificate, I felt somewhat surreal.
Just like that, we were married.
Ben had really become my husband.
Looking at the street scenes flashing by outside the car window,
I asked Ben: “Where are you taking me?”
There was a red light ahead, and Ben stopped the car.
He turned to look at me and said flatly: “A hotel.”
“What are we going to do at a hotel?”
Ben didn’t answer, his deep eyes fixed on my face.
His stare made me blush furiously.
He suddenly reached out and grabbed my chin: “You blush so casily.”
“What are you thinking about?”

“Imagining me without clothes, or thinking about how forward you were yesterday?”
When Ben said this, his expression remained unchanged, and if you weren’t listening carefully, you’d think he was asking if I’d calen yet.
Ben’s fingertips gently caressed the damaged skin at the corner of my mouth.
I bit his finger in embarrassed annoyance.
A dark look flashed in Ben’s eyes.
“You like my hands?”
I quickly let go and leaned back.
I was only tough with words.
In reality, I was a complete rookie.
Taking the initiative to flirt with Ben was one thing, but when he took the lead, I couldn’t handle it.
My face turned red.
“Professor Harrison, you’re being a pervert in broad daylight!”

The light turned green, and Ben looked away to focus on driving.
He became so proper that it seemed like his earlier teasing was just my imagination.
What refined gentleman? He was clearly a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
He put on quite an act.
Ben drove me back to my place and told me to pack my things over the next few days to move in with him.
I nodded.
“By the way, what about Albert?”
Ben glanced at me, and I guiltily looked away.
“I broke his legs and had him arrested.”
He said it casually, and seeing my silence, he sneered: “What, still thinking about him?”
Ben suddenly said to me: “Taylor, Nelson should have told you about
me.”
“I’m not a good person. On the contrary, I always get my revenge.”

“Those who cross me, those who betray me, they all meet bad ends.”
“You’d better behave yourself. It’s too late for regrets now.”
“Who’s thinking about him? I’m not crazy. That scumbag got what he deserved.”
My silence was just because I was thinking that some people seem to
turn bad all at once.
Or maybe they were bad from the beginning, but my youthful affection had gilded them with light.
I couldn’t see their true nature.
What childhood sweethearts? It was just my girlish fantasy.
Looking at Ben’s face, I leaned over and kissed him: “No regrets, no regrets. Professor Harrison is exactly what I wished for.”
Then I opened the car door and ran out.
But Ben turned the car around and stopped right in front of blocking my path.
me,
The driver’s side window was completely down, and I bent over to ask him: “What’s wrong?”
But he suddenly reached out the window, grabbed my collar,

and pulled me toward him.
He kissed my lips.
The intimate sounds made me blush again.

He didn’t linger too long, releasing me when I was struggling to breathe.
He left me with: “I’m going to class.”
And drove away.
Leaving me standing there alone, my heart racing out of control.
