Chapter 6
Seeing Nicholas’s outrageous request had left me nearly breathless, Edward quickly poured me a glass of water.
I watched his gait–it was still a bit stiff and unnatural.
Suddenly, my eyes stung, and I looked down, blaming myself.
The year I graduated, I’d been wandering around the streets with friends after getting drunk.
When Edward found out, he came looking for me all night. But I was drunk and refused to go home with him, insisting on dancing in the
streets.
Cars were coming and going, and to protect me, he broke his leg.
He was supposed to join the army that year, but the accident made him lose the chance to serve forever.
I quietly wiped tears from my eyes. After the argument with Nicholas, I didn’t want to stay at Taymor Group anymore. I might as well give this billion–dollar deal to Edward. It would be a way to show my thanks.
“Ms. Griffit, are you still going to sign that order from Mr. Sinclair? If you don’t leave now, it’ll be too late!”
Gavin’s words cut into my thoughts.
“Of course, sign it!”
I took the contract and placed it into Edward’s hand.
Chapter 6
“Edward, this deal is for you. Thank you for everything you’ve done for me. This might seem small to you, but it’s a token of my heartfelt gratitude.”
Before I could finish, Nicholas, who had been on the floor, scrambled up as if startled, like a cat with its tail stepped on.
“Briella, you said there was nothing between you two! For Edward, you’ve completely disregarded the fate of the Taymor Group!”
I paid no mind to Nicholas, my gaze fixed on Edward, hoping he’d accept my gesture.
Edward raised an eyebrow at me, a slight smile playing on his lips.
“In that case, I graciously accept.”
“You wouldn’t dare!” Nicholas shouted.
He lunged at Edward in a frenzy, stomping hard on Edward’s prosthetic leg.
“That’s my company’s deal! You can’t hand it over to him!”
In the next moment, Edward suddenly shoved Nicholas, sending him stumbling backward, a sneer playing on his lips.
“Oh, but I will.”
With that, Edward confidently walked away with Gavin.
As Edward vanished from sight, Anya, who had been silent until now, rushed forward and clutched Nicholas’s arm.
“Briella, you’ve gone too far! How could you let someone treat Nicholas that way? And how could you hand over that deal to someone else? That deal belonged to the Taymor Group!”
Chapter &
“I intended to give it to the Taymor Group, but Nicholas didn’t seem interested,” I said, a hint of amusement in my voice, my eyes glancing at Nicholas’s rigid expression.
He always takes my efforts for granted and never truly values them.
Three years ago, I recall a board meeting where he dismissed a plan I’d spent three nights perfecting, with just a single sentence. He then tossed it into the shredder and berated me publicly.
Suddenly, Edward’s assistant leaned in, murmured something, and politely handed me a stack of photos.
“Mr. Taymor, perhaps you should see some truths.”
With a smirk, I threw the photos at Nicholas’s feet. They scattered across the floor, followed by Anya’s scream.
