Chapter 12
Upon entering the room, Ash’s toes abruptly retreated, and in the next second, she was ready to turn around.
Wesley stood with his back to her, facing the window, unbuttoning his shirt. The strong lines of his back were rugged, and in the soft glow of the study’s lamp, they exuded an indescribable allure.
Ash’s gaze was steadfast, directly at his spine. He moved with practiced case, his posture elegant, casually tossing the shirt onto a nearby coat rack before donning a white undershirt. It was just the ordinary act of changing clothes, but Ash could not bring herself to watch.
She gripped the door handle, prepared to leave and come back later. But Wesley had already finished changing and turned around.”
“Why are you running away?” He caught her red–handed.
“I’m not running. I just came in.” Ash tugged at the corner of her mouth, her face seemingly untroubled, but her heart pounded.
It was the first time she had seen a person of the opposite sex undressed, even if that person was her brother.
“Have a seat,” Wesley gestured to the sofa beside him.
Ash, however, smiled and leaned against the door. “Wesley, what do you need me for?”
“Don’t mind what Chelsea and Sandra said.”
“I don’t mind,” Ash replied casually.
Only then did the worried expression on Wesley’s face fade away, his usual coldness giving way to a hint of warmth. He walked to the desk and opened the top drawer, taking out a card and sliding it towards Ash.
“Inside is 200 thousand dollars, your monthly allowance. Buy whatever you like with it.”
Ash raised an eyebrow as she glanced at the black card.
She had not expected the Feron family to be so generous, providing 200 thousand dollars as her monthly allowance. She did not immediately take iL.
“Don’t worry, Zelda and Sandra have theirs too. This is what you deserve.”
“Is that so? Thanks, Wesley,” Ash finally slipped the black card into her pocket.
She was not naive. The name on the black card clearly said Wesley, and it was obvious that he was personally giving her this money.
She had thought that the entire Feron family lacked any sense of kindness, but now, Wesley seemed quite considerate toward her.
In truth, when she returned to the Feron family this time, she bore a bit of resentment. The Feron family had torn Thea and the man she loved apart, forcing Thea to leave and, subsequently, deprived Thea of proper medical treatment, leading to Thea’s death during childbirth.
Ash had two purposes for coming back this time. One was to get to know her family, and the other was to make them explain why they treated Thea so cruelly.
The Feron family was not what it appeared to be. She was well aware of the hidden conflicts beneath their seemingly harmonious facade.
Although it seemed like they valued family ties, the truth was that they were rather indifferent.
This was precisely why, after her arrival, she did not grant a warm countenance to anyone here. There were hardly a few people here who genuinely welcomed her.
“Wesley, if you don’t have anything else to discuss, I’ll head back to my room then.” Ash’s tone softened, no longer as distant and aloof as before.
Wesley put his hands in his pockets and nodded. “Go ahead.”
Ash grasped the doorknob and closed the door behind her. As she turned, she noticed Homer leaning lazily against the railing at the end of the corridor with a cigarette in his mouth, leisurely staring at her.
“Ash, it seems you get along well with Wesley?”
“It’s okay.”
Ash replied calmly, intending to return to her room.
Homer quickly caught up, throwing the cigarette into a nearby trash can.

“Don’t let Wesley’s pretentiousness fool you. The only reason he’s being attentive to you is to please Grandfather.”
“What about you? Aren’t you also being attentive to me?” Ash bluntly pointed out. Compared to Homer’s ambiguous remarks, she found Wesley more straightforward and honest.
