Chapter 15
Not far away, a car came to a slow stop. Inside the car, Sandra watched the lively scene outside, clenching her fists with jealousy.
“Ugh! We’ve been studying in this school for years, and Homer has never come once! Yet, this country bumpkin starts school today, and Homer goes all out to welcome him! Does Homer even care about us?”
“Don’t be upset, sis. Ash doesn’t have anyone to rely on, so it’s only natural for Homer to take care of him a bit.” Zelda comforted Sandra, holding her hand.
But Sandra coldly snorted, not buying it. “Sis, I’m not as kind–hearted as you are! Just wait and see! Within three days, I’ll make sure this country bumpkin can’t stand staying in this school!”
With brisk strides, Ash entered the campus and made her way to the principal’s office, following the signs. The butler had already briefed her about the enrollment process, and her first task was to have an interview in the principal’s office.
As she walked through the corridor of the academic building, her fellow students could not help but gaze at her with admiration. The girls admired her handsome looks, while the boys just despised her.
“Who is this person? So cool and aloof! He’s fantastic!”
Didn’t you hear? He’s Wayne Feron’s fifth grandson. He’s here to complete his enrollment.”
“He’s so cute! I like him!”
“Cute, my foot! He’s like a sissy!”
“Take your toxic masculinity and get lost. We’re already in the 21st century, so stop judging others using your conservative and outdated views.”
Ash paid no attention to the chatter around her and continued on her way.
When Ash knocked on the door of the principal’s office and walked in, Sandra came to the same building.
Seeing a group of students gathered together, she immediately stepped beside them and snarled, “Don’t be fooled by his appearance. He’s a kid we brought in from the countryside. He’s just a bastard. My aunt eloped with the chauffeur, and he’s their child.”
“No way? That’s such a disgrace!”
“This is a scandal for the Feron family.”
“How can he have the nerve to appear in public? If it were me, I’d dig a hole and hide forever!”
The students‘ opinions of Ash took a 180–degree turn in an instant.
Sandra felt pleased with herself upon hearing their reactions.
She crossed her arms in front of her, feeling smug. “Just wait and see. I know he’s good for nothing. He definitely won’t pass the principal’s interview!”
“You’re right. What can a country bumpkin understand?”
“It seems like he’ll be slinking away from school pretty soon.”
Outside, the students were eagerly awaiting Ash’s embarrassment.
Inside the office, Jeremy Sarratt, the principal, pushed his reading glasses up and looked at the letter in front of him. He could not believe it, so he leaned in for a closer look. It was a letter of recommendation written by the head of the Department of Education, Will Reeves, himself.
“What’s your relationship with Mr. Reeves?” Jeremy asked, raising his eyebrows meaningfully.
With a casual posture, Ash replied, “I don’t know him.”
“You don’t know him? How is that possible?” Jeremy was puzzled.
Jeremy thought that if she did not know Will, there was no way that Will would write a recommendation letter for her.
He double–checked, and indeed, Ash’s name was clearly written on the letter.
Even with the Feron family’s influence, getting a letter from this prestigious figure was not so easy.
“Maybe my foster father asked him to write it. He loves meddling in my affairs, Ash answered nonchalantly.

Jeremy nodded, no longer pressing for more information. He stood up from his chair and walked up to Ash, scrutinizing her up and down several times.
He knew that Ash’s background was definitely not simple and that she was more than just a young member of the Feron family. Though he did not know precisely who Ash was, he knew he must not underestimate her.
