Chapter 4
Little did I know this mindset wouldn’t last long.

That afternoon, when Chad called Stacy, I overheard him asking expectantly, “Valkyrie, I’m competing in the city league next week. Could you come cheer me on?”
Stacy always liked putting Chad’s calls on speaker.
Stacy forced a smile as she explained, “I’ve got other commitments next week, so I can’t make it. But I’ll be watching and cheering you on in the livestream.”
Chad sounded disappointed. “Alright then. I’ll invite you again when there’s another opportunity.
I frowned momentarily, then relaxed.
Whatever.
So what if he went?
He wouldn’t recognize me anyway.
However, despite what Stacy had said, when I was carrying my clothes to the backstage changing room, I still spotted Stacy in the audience.
She was looking down at her phone, texting Chad, completely

oblivious to my presence.
I looked away.

Just then, a group of guys in black jackets with “Capital Sports University” logos on the back walked past me.
The guy leading the group was replying to messages on his phone.
One of his teammates threw an arm around his neck. “Chad, still chatting with our goddess Valkyrie?”
Chad put away his phone and grinned. “Yeah, I’m planning to visit her school after I win this championship and confess to her. Give her a surprise.”
The guys immediately started whooping and cheering.
“Chad’s one lucky guy!”
“I heard the goddess Valkyrie shares a dorm with that fat ex–girlfriend of yours. Won’t she be upset?”
“What’s it matter if she gets upset? That fatty should take a good look at herself in the mirror!”
Chad frowned with disgust. “Enough, stop talking about her.”
After saying this, he turned to pat his teammate on the shoulder,

but froze when he saw me.
I hadn’t heard their conversation and was simply heading toward the changing room.

Chad wanted to catch up, but within seconds, I had disappeared into the women’s changing room.
Seeing this, his teammates asked, “What’s wrong, Chad?”
Chad looked puzzled. “That’s weird… I could’ve sworn I just saw Valkyrie…”
His teammates brushed it off. “The goddess is way too busy to show up. Come on, we need to get ready for the match. Let’s go!”
Chad had no choice but to abandon the idea of waiting and followed his teammates as they left.
