Chapter 8 He Has My Passport
Eliana didn’t want to. Since she had already submitted her resignation, she wasn’t obliged to do anything Karina asked her to do at all.
Besides, though Karina posed it as a question, her commanding tone made Eliana very uncomfortable.
But then again, she figured that Xavier had her passport, so it was probably the last time she did such trivial work anyway. She could ask him for her passport when she delivered the coffee.
Taking a deep breath, she said, “Alright.”
“Thank you,” Karina said before walking out.
Being pregnant, Karina had a maternal glow. Also, her confidence and radiance, inherited from her wealthy upbringing, made her stand in sharp contrast to Eliana’s temperament.
In the past, thanks to the Norton family’s influence, Eliana was the same confident and radiant as Karina.
However, within just a few years, she was totally down and out.
Overwhelmed by the huge disparity, Eliana stood in place. After being dazed for a while, she pulled herself together, walked out of the restroom, and went to the pantry to make Xavier’s coffee.
He always had an Americano with three portions of brown sugar and one portion of milk.
Meanwhile, the meeting had come to an end. Walking out of the pantry, she saw people coming out of the conference room, but Xavier was nowhere to be seen. She figured he had already entered his office.

With the coffee, she knocked on the CEO’s office door.
“Come in.” Instead of his cold voice, Karina’s delicate voice rang out.
It almost made Eliana spill the coffee.
After struggling for quite a while, she finally plucked her courage and pushed open the door.
In the next second, she saw Karina sitting on Xavier’s lap while wrapping her arms around his neck.
She had psyched herself up, but the scene still hurt her deeply, making it hard for her to breathe.
Karina seemed a bit bashful.
“Put down the coffee, and then you may leave.”
Karina’s gentle voice snapped her back to reality.
She slowly lifted her head and met Xavier’s eyes from a certain distance.
He was staring at her; the iciness in his gaze almost froze her.
Almost instantly, her gut told her he was doing this on purpose.
He knew exactly why she was here and deliberately made her walk in on this just to embarrass her.
“Ms. Harrell?” Karina looked over.
Eliana nodded, put the coffee on the desk, and turned around hastily. Yet, after a few steps, she stopped.
Titillating sounds rang out from behind her as she pictured the two getting intimate in her mind..

Her legs almost gave way as she tried her best not to slump to the floor.
Meanwhile, Karina was clearly upset by her existence, not wanting her to continue to get in their way.
“Ms. Harrell, do you have anything else you need?”
“I…”
Finally mustering her courage again, she turned around. “Mr. Hogan has a thing that’s very important to me. I’d like to have it back.”
The atmosphere in the 200–square–meter CEO’s office instantly froze.
The piles of documents on the desk couldn’t diminish his imposing presence at all. As he sat in his leather chair, he stared at Eliana, the collar of his white shirt undone. A few rosy hickeys peeking from under it somehow made his eyes bloodshot.
“Oh? What’s that?”
Karina was curious and tightened her arms around Xavier. “Xavier, why are you holding onto something belonging to your secretary?”
“It’s just something unimportant.”
He pulled her forearm and locked her in his arms. From where Eliana was standing, their bodies were pressed tightly together.
She stood in place, pursing her lips while saying nothing, overwhelmed by great heartache. After what felt like an eternity, Xavier looked over at her and said to her as if she were a total stranger, “You may leave now.”
His tone was commanding, and his words were utterly harsh.
It seemed he had no intention of giving the passport back to her at all.
“Mr. Hogan has my passport.

She said straightforwardly, hoping that with Karina here, she could put an end to everything and then leave for good. She couldn’t endure staying here even just a minute longer.
Then she continued, “I’ve already submitted my resignation. Why wouldn’t you give me my passport back, Mr. Hogan? It makes me wonder whether you’re getting any ideas about me. Mr. Hogan, you have quite a lot of talents working for you. You don’t have to use such a despicable method against me at all. After all, I’m just a secretary.”
