Chapter 19 Make Sure Karina Pays
They were outnumbered. Besides, Karina found arguing in public embarrassing. She couldn’t help but step back, wanting to distance herself from Brianna.
Swirling the champagne in her glass, Eliana walked over to them and said. in a mocking tone, her eyes icy, “What is it, Karina? Brianna is gonna be your sister–in–law, and you actually wanna steer clear from her now that she’s in trouble?”
“What’s going on?” Just then, an angry voice rang out.
Everyone turned around, only to see Xavier walking toward them in a dark suit. His eyes were deep and cold, and his presence was as imposing
as ever.
He saw Eliana at first glance.
He hadn’t seen her in days.
Her figure was fuller now, which was worlds apart from her time in the Hogan family. Back then, she had been so fragile and skinny.
Standing under the spotlight, she had a radiant smile on her face, and the custom–made gown she was wearing made her skin even fairer. She caught his gaze so effortlessly, and somehow, he felt that she was an entirely different person.
Upon seeing Xavier, Brianna was much more confident and domineering. She pointed at Katelynn and Eliana and said, “Xavier, they were giving me a hard time.”
At the sight of her ruined makeup as well as the terrified Karina, he looked around, his gaze silencing the mocking voices at once.

“How shameless of you to gang up on them.”
“Think however you want,” Eliana said with a mocking smile, not. bothering to argue with him. “You’re Brianna’s brother. Of course, know better than me how she really is.”
She didn’t mind being the villain here.

Katelynn echoed, saying to Xavier. “Take her to leave. The Hogan family
isn’t welcome here.”
The onlookers had witnessed everything and were indignant.
One of them pointed at Brianna and protested, “She’s lying. She started it!”
Others echoed, “That’s true. She’s already so mean at such a young age. ‘Barren bitch‘? She surely has a foul mouth. No decent girl would ever say something like that.”
“She acted so tough but chickened out the second she was splashed with champagne. What a joke.”
Xavier frowned slightly. Knowing Brianna, he realized those people might not be slandering her at all. He asked her, “Is what they’re saying
true?”
Brianna lowered her head, not daring to say anything.
It was a great opportunity for Karina to cozy up to Xavier and smear Eliana. She immediately chimed in in a soft voice, looking pitiful, “Xavier, it was my fault. I didn’t stop Bree in time, and she said something inappropriate and had a row with Ms. Harrell.”
Then she apologized to Eliana, “Ms. Harrell, I’m sorry. I didn’t know. about you when I was with Xavier. If things could go back, I’d never have come between you.

“I’d really appreciate it if you could move past this. About the exhibition… Could you stop making things hard for the Hogan Group?”
Her tone was gentle, and her doe–like eyes made her even more pitiful.
Those who didn’t know the truth would fall for her words easily, believing that Eliana was deliberately targeting the Hogan Group to get back at Xavier.
But Katelynn and Eliana wouldn’t be fooled.
Pointing at her nose, Katelynn snapped, “Drop the act, you phony. You, the homewrecker, are here playing the innocent victim? Your lame act disgusts me. I’m gonna teach you a lesson!”
With that, she grabbed a bottle and was about to smash it at Karina’s head.
Seeing this, Eliana quickly stopped her. “Don’t. She’s pregnant after all.”
Meanwhile, Karina held her head, seeming fragile. In the next second, she collapsed in Xavier’s arms.
With her in his arms, he blocked her from Katelynn and shoved Katelynn’s shoulder impatiently.
Caught off guard, Katelynn fell backward. If it weren’t for Eliana, she would have collapsed to the floor.
In the next second, Eliana stepped forward.
She slapped Karina’s face hard.
Since she used so much force, Karina failed to react even after a few seconds. Everything she saw was turned upside down, and her cheek was burning. This was the first time someone had dared to lay a finger on her.
Eliana shook her numb hand and met Xavier’s gaze, not flinching at all.
