Chapter 8
James‘ Adam’s apple moved and a tear slid down from the corner of his eye. When I didn’t speak, he placed his large palm over the back of my hand. It was still warm, just like before.
“Bianca, I’ve thought about everything you said. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have come after you, you know.”
“At that time, I thought you were fine and we could try to have another child. I didn’t expect I had hurt you so badly and made you want to leave me… During this time, I’ve thought it through. I love you, Bianca. I can’t live without you.*
“I’m sorry for hurting you and for what happened to our child. But please give me a chance to make up for it. You can’t just give up on me like this.”
James leaned forward slightly, his eyes full of pleading.
“Please, don’t treat me this way.”
The man who was always calm and proud was now completely broken in front of me, but I didn’t feel any pity.
“James, do you think I’m being cruel to you?”
He tried to calm himself with a deep breath, but the tears continued to fall. Looking into his red eyes, I pulled my hand away and spoke without mercy, just like he had done to me in the past.
“But every time you ignored me or yelled at me because of Wendy, it hurt more than what you feel now. Even when I had just finished the abortion and the pain was so bad I couldn’t move, you chose to take care of Wendy first and even scolded me for being unreasonable. Did you ever care how I felt?”
“James, this is the end for us. I won’t give you another chance to hurt me again.”
I used to think that bringing up these things would still break my heart. But now, I could say them calmly. My heart felt a little sour, but it didn’t hurt anymore.
The wound I thought would never heal had already formed a scab.
I stood up.
“My lunch break is almost over. I’m leaving. And don’t contact me again.”
“If you still have any feelings for me, please just sign the divorce papers and let me go.”
I turned around after speaking. I heard the sound of him collapsing and crying behind me, but I never looked back. That night, I received a message from Mr. Johnson.
[Miss Adams, Mr. Worthington has signed. Also, besides the asset division you requested, he has agreed to give you a flat in Oslo.]
[Okay. Thank you for handling everything.]
James was also very quick to act. Within a month, he sent me the property certificate. I opened it. It was a house in the center of Oslo, worth about two million pounds. Surely, this

had used up most of his savings.
When I came out of the Town Hall after getting the divorce certificate, I heard James. calling from behind.
“Bianca, how have you been lately?”
James followed behind me carefully, with hope in his eyes. Only then did I clearly see how he looked now. He was much thinner and his face looked tired.
“Very well.”
I smiled at him and turned to leave.
“Bianca!”
I paused.
He continued, “My mom and dad miss you a lot. If you have time, you can visit them.”
“Please thank them for me. I’ll visit if I have time, but that’s no longer my home.”
After that, I got in the car, went to the airport and flew back to Oslo to continue working.
During that time, I became more familiar with the work at the head office. I was always the last to leave each day, trying to catch up with my coworkers as quickly as possible. Luckily, my hard work paid off. I finally got the chance to work independently.
