EPISODE 89
It was a prompt decision.
When he asked me if I wanted to come, I simply said yes. I didn’t think twice. I didn’t ask where we were going or what would happen after. Something in me just wanted to agree.”
It felt like saying yes was the only sensible thing to do, even if I didn’t know his name. It was strange, and maybe a little reckless, but I couldn’t bring myself to regret it.”
The sincerity in his eyes was enough to move me.
Now I was sitting beside him inside a sleek black SUV, quiet and unsure of where exactly this road was leading me. He was on the phone, speaking in a low, authoritative tone.
“All right. Make sure no one dares partner with them again. If my mother asks about it, tell her to come to me directly. I’ll deal with her,” he said before ending the call.
His voice was calm, but every word carried weight, like he wasn’t just giving instructions but sealing someone’s fate.”
When he turned to me, there was a flicker of hesitation in his eyes before he spoke. “This is what I believe is the best form of revenge.”
I blinked, confused. “Revenge? What are you talking about?”
He rested one arm casually on the steering wheel and adjusted his cufflinks with the other.”
“The RED Diamond Enterprise is owned by the Red Moon Clan.”
Pknew that. Lucas was the CEO of RED Diamond and had been handling it for five years. As his Luna, I had served as his assistant in most matters, and I knew the company had been performing well. There were even ongoing plans for international expansion.”
He continued, “They’ve built a strong presence in the industry over the years, but they’re still beneath the Gold Fang Clan in influence. I’m sure you’ve heard of the Gold Fang Clan.”
I nodded, still not following the full picture. The Gold Fang Clan was almost legendary in the fields of real estate and textile. Their history was so notable that they were mentioned in business books, their success something most companies aspired to.”
“Are you part of the Gold Fang Clan?” I asked.”
“You could say that,” he muttered. “Haven’t you ever heard of the circle?”
I shook my head. Even though I had been adopted by Lilith’s parents and brought into their wealthy world, I wasn’t really connected to their social circles. Most people didn’t treat me well, some even ignored me entirely.”
He could tell I wasn’t following, and simply gave a small, almost indifferent shrug.
“So, I made a few calls. Adjusted some things. It doesn’t affect my company, and even if it did, it would be minor. But for them, it’s enough to cause trouble for months.”
I stared at him, stunned. “Wait… Did you do something to
He scoffed lightly. “I only pulled out my investments.”
“Investments? Why would you do that?”
Lucas’s company?”
He turned his head and looked at me. Really looked. There was a heat in my
flip.”
“What other reason would I have, Selene?”
gaze that wasn’t threatening, but it made my stomach
I shook my head slowly, then something dawned on me. “Are you doing this for me? But I don’t even know you.“”
His expression dimmed slightly, though he quickly masked it with a tight–lipped smirk. He looked away, placing his hands on his knees, his fingers curling as though holding back something.”
“Of course, you don’t,” he said quietly. “But that’s not important. As long as you’re safe, and here with me… that’s enough.“}
His words were strange and comforting, but confusing. They carried a sense of familiarity I couldn’t place. He spoke like someone who knew me well. But I didn’t recognize him at all.
We drove in silence for another hour. When the SUV finally pulled into a wide stone driveway, I sat up straighter.}
The mansion before us made Lucas’s estate look modest. It was grand, with columns, sprawling balconies, and a wide double–door entrance with sculpted handles. Just looking at it, anyone could tell the place had history.
A butler in uniform stood waiting at the steps.
“Sir Ulysses, welcome home,” the butler said as he opened the door.”
So that was his name. Ulysses.”
He stepped out first, then turned to me and offered his hand. I hesitated for only a second before taking it. His grip was firm but respectful. He helped me down and quickly let go.
“Prepare a room for Miss Selene,” Ulysses instructed the butler. “Handle all her belongings with care.”
I raised a hand awkwardly. “Actually, I can stay at a hotel. There’s really no need for a room here-”
“I’m not letting you sleep somewhere else,” he interrupted, gentle but firm. “Even if it’s a hotel I own, I wouldn’t feel reassured. It’s
