I looked at Catelyn, standing tall with that same composed elegance that always drew attention. Her long, straight hair framed her face perfectly, not a strand out of place, and the shimmer of her gown matched the venom in her words.!!
She carried herself as if she owned the room, as if everything inside it revolved around her.
She didn’t lower her voice. She didn’t need to, she wanted everyone to hear.
“You really are a homewrecker, Selene. Destroying families is what you do best,” she repeated, louder this time, making sure no one could mistake her words.
Gasps rippled through the crowd watching us. Some covered their mouths, others widened their eyes, a few leaned in, eager for the next scene of what felt like a live drama they had front–row seats for.”
I noticed the subtle shift within these people, the way they were turning their heads, conversations trailing off mid–sentence. People loved scandals more than the truth.”
I stared at Catelyn, jaw clenched.”
“Do you even hear yourself?” I asked flatly, keeping my voice calm. “Are you seriously saying that out loud?“}
She crossed her arms over her chest as if rehearsed, her chin lifted slightly. The posture screamed performance.}]
“Everyone here knows about me and Ulysses. Don’t play innocent. We practically grew up together. He and I…” she turned slightly, addressing the crowd now, “-we were expected to end up together. Everyone knows that.“}
Quiet nods rippled through the crowd. A man behind me muttered, “They’ve been close since they were kids.“}
“Just like Lilith and Lucas,” a woman added from the left. “Everyone thought they were the perfect match.“}
Catelyn’s smile deepened, smug and satisfied.”
“See? It’s not just me. People saw the same thing. Ulysses and I… just like those two there were meant to be. Not with you. You’re the one who ruins things, a homewrecker, twice over. You married Lucas, and now you’re clinging to Ulysses. What’s next? His brother?”
I let out a dry laugh and turned to the crowd, raising my voice.“]
“Since you’re all so invested in my private life, maybe you’d like to hear the facts. Lucas and I? We’re already divorced.“}
The words hit harder than I expected.”
Gasps erupted again, louder this time, followed by murmurs of confusion.
“Divorced?”
“Did that actually happen?“>
“Why didn’t anyone hear about it?”
Small voices speculated on why. Lucas and I hadn’t really fought, there were no scandal beyond the substitute marriage candidate in our union. Most people thought we were a normal couple, loving and understanding. Us having a divorce did not sound credible
at all.”
So, they immediately speculated the reason.”
“Probably left him when his company started failing.“}
“She really is a gold digger.“”
“She went from Lucas to Ulysses without missing a beat.”
“Does she just swap men like handbags?“}]
The judgment in their eyes wasn’t subtle anymore. They didn’t even pretend to be polite. They wanted to see me break. That was the whole point.”
“How convenient,” Catelyn said, her tone dripping with sarcasm. “First a homewrecker, now a gold digger. Let me guess, Ulysses is just another rung on your ladder. You don’t even wait. One man falls, and you’re already reaching for the next.“}
“You’re disgusting,” a voice spat from behind the buffet table. “Cheaters are really bold these days. And they will always choose those people who are living well together.“}]
“Have you no shame?“”
“Did Lucas even know who you really were?“}
“She probably seduced Ulysses the same way she trapped Lucas.”
I didn’t move or flinch. Instead, I looked straight at Catelyn, then swept my gaze over the faces watching me like a courtroom
audience.”
“If you must know,” I said, loud and clear, “Ulysses came to me. Not the other way around. And who was the one thrown out of his house for showing up uninvited? Who did he publicly cast out in front of his staff?“M
I tilted my head slightly, my tone even. “Wasn’t that you, Catelyn?“}
A hush fell. A few eyebrows rose.”
Wait Ulysses kicked her out? Is that even possible?”

“Wait, Ulysses kicked her out? Is that even possible?“%
“I remembered someone from the neighborhood said that they saw Catelyn leaving Ulysses’s house before. I thought they were joking since Ulysses is not the type to do that.”
“Did that really happen?“”
Catelyn’s perfect posture faltered for a moment. Her fingers twitched, jaw tightening, but she recovered quickly and raised her voice again.
“You must have done something. Drugged him. Manipulated him. That’s what you’re good at, right? That’s probably how you got Lucas, too. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s the same play this time.“%
“I didn’t trick Lucas,” I snapped, cutting her off. “And our marriage? It’s not a scandal, no matter how much you want it to be. Do you want a scandal? Fine. Let’s talk about the wedding that never happened, about Lilith’s wedding.”
I looked at Lilith and smirked. “On the day of her wedding with Lucas, she ran away to pursue another man whom she said is her mate. Who knows what happened, but she then got pregnant and aborted it. She stayed outside the country to recuperate.“}
The shock was immediate. People gasped so loudly, it drowned out the music. Some even stepped back. Voices overlapped as the
noise rose.
“She aborted a baby?”
“Wait, Lilith was pregnant?”
“No one said anything about that!“}
Lilith’s face went pale. Her lips parted as she looked around in panic. She wasn’t ready for that secret to be exposed. Lucas turned to her, confusion spreading across his face.”
“Is that true, Lilith?” He asked, his voice was low but firm.
She shook her head wildly. “No! That never happened! How could I be pregnant? She’s lying!”
Then she turned to me, voice rising. “You’re the one twisting the story! And what divorce? You and Lucas are still married. You’re saying all this just to justify why you’re clinging to Ulysses like some trophy.”
The crowd pounced on her words like vultures.
“She’s probably lying about the divorce.”
“If it’s real, why hide it from everyone?”
“She wants to make herself look better.”
“This is just her excuse for cheating.“}
“Poor Lucas.”
I opened my mouth to speak, but someone stepped forward before I could.
An arm wrapped around my shoulders. I froze. The weight was familiar. The warmth. The scent. I didn’t need to look to know who it
was.
“She’s telling the truth,” Ulysses said, his voice cutting clean through the noise.
Everything stopped. He stepped forward beside me, his presence undeniable. The whispers died instantly.”
“I helped her file the divorce papers against Lucas. Everything was handled legally,” he said, loud enough for the whole room to hear. “You all simply weren’t important enough to be informed.”
