“Walk around where? This place is in the middle of nowhere,” Kendrick muttered. “I’ve filmed out here a bunch of times already. I’m sick of the sight of this place.” He looked around with zero interest. “Anyway, if you won’t tell me what you want, I’m just going to grab something random.”
“Aren’t you worried someone might recognize you? You kind of just showed up–what if fans spot you?”
“Come on. I’m not an idiot. I showed up in disguise, Kendrick said, looking pleased with himself. “No one’s going to recognize me that easily. And who would expect a guy who already left the spotlight to be hanging out at a film lot like this anyway?”
Just as he was about to say more, a voice interrupted.
“Mr. Kendrick! Wow, long time no see. Can’t believe you’re here–what a surprise.”
Kendrick lifted his eyes. “Oh, it’s you. Are you done shooting!”
He’d seen Jasper earlier struggling through a crying scene, take after take, still not getting it. Mr. Zane had eventually given up and gone to lunch, leaving Jasper by himself trying to work through it. Kendrick hadn’t expected him to come over this fast.
“No, not yet,” Jasper admitted. “Crying scenes aren’t really my thing. We’ve gone over it a bunch of times, but I still can’t get it right. It’s been frustrating. I mean, I’m still new, so I’ve got a long way to go. But when I saw you here, I thought, why not ask for a little advice?”
The real reason, of course, was that Jasper saw a rare opportunity to get close to Kendrick. As a rookie, he normally wouldn’t even have a shot at talking to someone like Kendrick–different backgrounds, different circles. But now that the opportunity had popped up, he was going to try to get close. The acting tip was just an excuse.
Kendrick knew exactly what this was. Kendrick wasn’t new to this–people had tried that move on him more times than he could count back when he was still in the spotlight. But he was bored, so whatever he decided to play along.
“Crying scenes? Those are actually pretty easy,” Kendrick said, folding his arms. “The simplest trick? Pick something you really love–like, say, your dream car. You win it in a giveaway, you’re hyped, you show up to claim it.. And then boom–it turns out it’s someone with the same name. Not you.” He leaned in slightly. “Hang onto that feeling. That gut punch. That heartbreak when you thought something amazing was finally yours. And then it wasn’t. That’s what triggers the emotion.” He kept going, his tone casual but clear. “It’s that crash–you’re riding a high, full of hope, and then bam, it falls apart. Same thing as losing someone you care about. Or think about being starving, finding food, and then realizing it’s gone bad. You. don’t have to force it. Just tap into that feeling, and the tears will come.”
Jasper stood there stunned. What kind of explanation was that? Was this how Kendrick pulled off those emotional scenes it honestly felt a little ridiculous.
Kendrick caught the look and raised an eyebrow. “What, you don’t believe me? Look, emotion’s emotion. It doesn’t matter where it comes from–as long as it feels real. Say your character’s hit rock bottom. Just picture yourself broke, stuck, and completely out of options. If you tap into that, no one’s going to question your acting. Trust me. Try it next time you’re in front of the camera.”
Jasper had only ever been taught to fully embody a role–stay in character, live in the moment. He’d never heard anyone explain it like this before. But Kendrick’s acting had always been legit–he couldn’t deny that. Maybe this weird trick actually
worked?
What started as an excuse to make small talk had somehow turned into real advice, Jasper thought about it seriously for a moment and thanked Kendrick, genuinely.
Kendrick waved it off. “No big deal. I’ve told that trick to a bunch of people. Most don’t actually get it. Let’s see if you can pull
in off first.”
Kendrick wasn’t about to tell Jasper he’d just been messing with him the whole time.
Then Jasper said, “I’ve seen Freya around these past few days, but I didn’t realize you two knew each other. I’ve been so busy. shooting I haven’t really checked in on her–1 hope that’s alright.”
Wat…she getting special treatment because she knows Kendrick or because she’s… something more!

Kendrick let out a quiet scoll. This guy really didn’t know when to stop talking Still, he didn’t feel like making a scene–everyone in this business had their own way of getting by. Anyone who made it had to play smart. So instead of wasting time, he just laid it out plainly.
“Freya’s got a great attitude and real talent, and she’s beautiful. People are naturally drawn to her. Whether someone’s looking out for her or not? Doesn’t really matter.”
Jasper froze for a second. He turned instinctively to glance at Freya, but she didn’t react at all–like she hadn’t even heard the conversation Jasper quickly swallowed any thoughts he was having and dropped his gaze.
Wait–didn’t someone just say Louis’s wife was named Freya?
Even if he wanted to confirm it, this definitely wasn’t the time or place. Not in front of her. He kept his cool and faked a smile. like nothing had clicked–though his head was spinning.
