Emily fell silent, knowing she had no power to refuse.
She could only wait for Alex to tire of his game, hoping he’d return to her. Instead, she learned they were officially together.
Sophia hadn’t taken a dime from him but agreed to his pursuit on one condition: they’d date like an ordinary couple.
Alex eagerly complied, joining her for live art streams, visiting galleries, riding roller coasters at amusement parks, and grabbing burgers from food trucks or greasy fast food joints,
He brought her to every event, inseparable, posting about her on social media like a lovesick college kid
Lach post stabbed Emily’s heart. She’d cried, screamed, even begged for a divorce.
But Alex brushed it off, his voice light but firm. “Emily, sweetheart. I like obedient girls. No more tantrums.”
Emily forced herself to stay calm, clinging to his promises, praying he’d grow bored and come back to their family.
But then Sophia cut him off, blocking his calls and messages without a word. In a final, cryptic text, she’d hinted to Alex that Emily had confronted her, warning her to stay away from him.
Emily knew it was Sophia’s way of taunting her, but she couldn’t explain herself. Alex wouldn’t believe her.
“Sweetheart, still not talking? Ethan’s running out of time. Ten, nine, eight.” Alex leaned closer, his warm breath grazing her ear, sending a chill deeper
than the snow.
“I’ll tell you! I’ll tell you!” Emily snapped back to reality, her voice breaking as her heart tore apart. For the first time, she lied to him. “I told her to leave you, to stop clinging to you…”
Her emotions collapsed, tears blurring her vision. Her grip on Alex’s arm loosened, slipping away until her hands fell limply to her si
sides.
Alex gazed at her broken state, brushing her icy cheek with a soothing touch. “Sweetheart, don’t make decisions on your own. Think about Ethan next time”
Emily’s expression turned hollow, her nod mechanical. Something inside her shattered, the pain spreading through every nerve in her body.
Her body swayed, dizziness overwhelming her. She collapsed into the snow, a warm trickle seeping between her legs as she hit the ground.
At that moment, one of Alex’s men rushed in. “We found Sophia. She’s teaching art to children with disabilities.”
Glancing at Emily, he added, “But Mrs. Harrington told her not to see you anymore, so she asked you hot to look for her.”
Alex’s face lit up, ignoring the second part. He immediately arranged for Sophia to trend online, praising her beauty and kindness.
As for Emily, sprawled in the snow, he didn’t spare her a glance.
“Alex, my stomach..” Emily’s voice was weak, pain searing through her as she reached toward his retreating figure. But he vanished from her sight. Once in his car, Alex called the butler, ordering him to lock Emily in the family crypt for reflection.
The butler stared at Emily, crumpled in the snow, blood pooling beneath her. “Sir, Mrs. Harrington… she’s miscarrying. There’s so much blood…” Alex’s expression darkened instantly. “She was pregnant?” he muttered, his voice low and sharp. “She’s getting bolder by the day. That baby was never
meant to exist.”
The butler sighed, unable to defy Alex’s orders, and carried Emily to the crypt.
The pain jolted Emily awake, her abdomen throbbing as if her Insides were being torn apart. She felt her child’s life slipping away.
Crawling to the door, she pounded on it, screaming hoarsely. “Let me out! Get me to a hospital! Save my baby!”
*Mex, please, save our child!”
*Someone, help!”
After what felt like an eternity, the butler’s voice came through the door. “Mrs. Harrington, that child wasn’t in Mr. Harrington’s plans. Without his orders, no one dares take you to a hospital. From now on, stay put–and reflect on your actions. The crypt is where you’ll remain.”
Haily’s strength drained away. She thought of Alex’s cold departure and crumpled to the floor, utterly broken.
All she’d wanted was a child, their child. But because he didn’t want one, she had no right to carry it. Now, for his mistress, he’d abandoned her, pregnant and bleeding, locking her away without a care for
for her life.
Clutching her abdomen, Emily wanted to cry but couldn’t. The pain was suffocating, threatening to consume her. Chipter 1

Emily woke again in a hospital bed, her hand instinctively reaching for her flat stomach. Grief flooded her heart–her baby was truly gone.
It seemed her marriage to Alex had reached its end too.
The hospital room door swing open, and she glanced over.
Alex strode in, hand–in–hand with Sophia, their fingers tightly interlocked.
Sophia’s gaze was icy, her eyes rimmed with red as she glared at Emily. “Mrs. Harrington, I already stepped away. I stayed out of your mess. But dragging my family into it? Sending people to threaten my parents? What is that? Can’t control your husband, so you go after the people who can’t fight back?”
Faced with baseless accusations, Emily’s eyes darted to Alex. His gaze lingered on Sophia, filled with admiration, as if she were a priceless treasure.
Pain stabbed Emily’s chest. Once, he’d looked at her the same way–tender, adoring, unable to tear his eyes away.

from the moment he entered the room, he hadn’t spared her a single glance.
Emily let out a bitter, self–mocking laugh. Ignoring Sophia, she turned to Alex. “Why didn’t you save our baby?”
“You should ask yourself why you got pregnant without my permission,” Alex snapped, his voice cold and commanding, radiating authority.
“In this marriage, I don’t even have the right to want a child?” Emily asked, her voice breaking, though she already knew the answer.
Without hesitation, Alex nodded, his presence exuding an unyielding dominance. “That’s right.”
Emily’s head dropped, tears welling in her eyes.
“I’m not here to listen to you two argue about kids,” Sophia cut in, her tone sharp as she shot Alex a look of frustration. In his presence, she always carried herself with fearless confidence, poised and authentic,
Alex patted her back soothingly, then turned to Emily with a reproachful glare. “Emily, you drove my wild kitten away and sent people to threaten her parents. You owe her an apology.”

Meeting his gaze, Emily’s heart ached, a dull pain spreading through her. “I didn’t do it,” she protested. “I won’t apologize!”
“Still causing a scene?”
“I didn’t do anything,” Emily insisted, shaking her head.
Alex’s eyes darkened, his expression growing colder. With a wave of his hand, he summoned the bodyguards waiting at the door.
“Are you going to apologize, or do my men need to help you?” His voice was chilling, his stare intimidating
Emily’s heart twisted painfully, but she held his gaze, defiant, betting he’d honor his old promises not to harın her.
“Assist Mrs. Harrington,” Alex ordered coully,
Emily’s gamble failed.
Resigning herself, she didn’t resist as the bodyguards yanked her from the bed, forcing her head down to bow before Sophia
“I’m sorry,” she muttered, biting her lip until the metallic taste of blood filled her mouth.
“Do you accept her apology?” Alex asked, a faint smirk playing on his lips as he looked at Sophia, still cradled in his arms.
Sophia nodded, then fixed him with a resolute stare. “Alex, I appreciate whatever feelings you had for me but this ends here. My parents would never accept me as someone’s mistress, and I won’t let them get hurt because of me.”
“That’s an easy fix–no mistress, then,” Alex replied, grabbing Sophia’s arm and pulling her closer. He dialed his lawyer on his phone. “Draft a divorce agreement. Give Emily a hundred million.”
Emily felt like bar heart was being ripped to shreds–over and over again. She stared at him in disbelled–the man who’d once risked everything to marry her was now discarding her for his mistress.
Alex tilted Sophia’s chin possessively, “Once the divorce goes through, you’ll be my one and only.
Sophia wrapped her arms around him with a soft smile, “I’ll give you one last chance,” she murmured–and just before she leaned in, she shot Emily a quick, smug glance behind his back.
Alex smiled Indulgently, took her hand, and walked out, leaving Emily crumpled on the floor.

Watching their retreating figures, she let out a hollow laugh, the sound laced with pain, tears streaming down her face.
Not long after, Alex’s lawyer arrived with the divorce papers.
“Mrs. Harrington,” he said, “Mr. Harrington asked me to have you sign these. But he also wanted me to tell you–it’s just for show. Once he’s done playing around, he plans to come back, remarry you, and settle down.”
“There’s a hundred million on this,” the lawyer continued. “Your anniversary is in two weeks. Once that passes, he wants you to take the money, go on a trip, and give him some space. But don’t worry–he says when you return, he’ll marry you all over again.”
Emily stared at the divorce papers, lost in thought. Did Alex really think she couldn’t live without him?
He was wrong. She’d only clung to him because she loved him.
But now, she was done loving him.
Without a moment’s hesitation, Emily signed the papers, taking the card and the plane ticket.
