Damien stood stunned, asking again in disbelief.
“What did you say? Just some blood, how could she die? Are you mistaken?”
Dr. Lewis sighed on the other end.
“Normally, it wouldn’t be an issue. While 3000cc is a lot of blood, it’s not usually fatal. But the problem is Ms. Price’s mother sustained severe injuries just days before!”
“Falling from a height, nearly drowning, and hitting her head! She’d been clinging to life on medication all these days. Then, yesterday, the sudden massive blood loss… there was no way to save her.”
At this, Damien was utterly dumbfounded.
How could this be?
He had only used a dummy to scare Evelyn, hadn’t he? It wasn’t Evelyn’s mother he’d thrown into the ocean. So how had things spiraled into *this*?
Suddenly, he remembered Evelyn’s words from the hospital, when she’d begged him to save her mother.
She had said Tiffany swapped their mothers!
Damien finally understood, a horrifying realization dawning on him.
He slammed his phone down, his face darkening with a gathering storm.
He pulled out the gun from his waistband, then turned and stalked back into Tiffany’s hospital room.
Tiffany thought he’d changed his mind. But before she could even open her mouth, a sharp gunshot rang out.
Damien shot the window, shattering the glass. The next second, he lunged across the room, seizing her by the throat.
“Talk! What did you do to Evelyn’s mother?!”
Tiffany was utterly terrified by the sudden violence. Tears streaming down her face, she shook her head helplessly.
“I didn’t.”
Seeing her denial, Damien’s patience snapped. He aimed at her stomach and fired.
“Now, are you going to talk?”
Tiffany shrieked, clutching her stomach. She curled into a ball on the bed, cold sweat beading on her skin.
Seeing the blood gushing from between her legs, she finally broke.
“So what if I swapped her mother? Damien Thorne… I wouldn’t have been able to pull it off so smoothly if you hadn’t indulged me! You don’t think you can push all the blame on me and get away clean, do you?”
“Let me tell you, don’t dream of it! Looking at your face right now, Evelyn’s mom is dead, isn’t she? Even if she died because of me, the knife that killed her was put in my hand by *you*!”
Tiffany laughed and cried, completely unhinged now.
“Damien Thorne! You indirectly killed Evelyn’s mother! She’ll never forgive you! Never for the rest of her life!”
Tiffany’s laughter was maniacal, completely oblivious to Damien’s steadily chilling expression.
*Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!*
After four violent gunshots, four bloody holes appeared in Tiffany’s limbs.
Damien still held his firing stance, staring at her with cold contempt.
“You once took a bullet for me, saving my life. I won’t kill you. So, Tiffany, for the rest of your days, you can live comfortably as a cripple!”
Damien holstered his gun and raced straight to the hospital.
He couldn’t wait to see Evelyn.
But before he even arrived, a call came through from one of his men.
“Boss, bad news! The Missus… she’s gone!”
Damien slammed his foot on the accelerator, his fist slamming down on the steering wheel.
He froze for a moment, then let out a low, chilling chuckle, his eyes wild with a sick obsession.
“Dare to run? Evelyn, even if you run to the ends of the earth, I will find you and bind you tightly to my side!”
“This life or the next! You will never escape me!”
