Chapter 5
Lost in thought, Brady tried to put his arm around my waist again.
I twisted away to dodge him, and happened to bump into Sarah and Jessica coming out of the classroom arm in arm.
Tiffany followed beside them, clearly being excluded.
Jessica’s eyes lit up when she saw Brady.
Sarah seemed to have figured out the relationship between Brady and me, and immediately walked over enthusiastically to
greet us:
“Class president, this is…”
“I’m Ashley’s boyfriend,” Brady said.
Sarah gasped and covered her mouth.
“Wasn’t your boyfriend that upperclassman from the day before yesterday? How is this guy also your boyfriend?”
Brady’s expression changed instantly, and he turned to look at me with questioning eyes.
Sarah looked quite pleased with herself and added fuel to the fire:

“Sorry about that, but I’m pretty direct–I say what I see.”

“Class president, you’re something else. Your boyfriend’s so handsome and you’re still not satisfied. I guess rich girls like you just play around more.”
Brady’s chest heaved with anger as he grabbed my arm.
“Ashley, aren’t you going to explain? Who was that upperclassman?”
I pried his hand off and looked him straight in the
eye.
“If I told you the upperclassman was just being nice and helping me move my luggage, and this girl is making things up, would you believe me or her?”
Brady seemed unsure but stubbornly said:
“There’s no smoke without fire. Why would someone falsely accuse you of something you didn’t do?
I sneered inwardly. Perfect–another scumbag about to enter the dating market.
“Well, I wouldn’t know. Maybe my roommate thinks you’re handsome and wants to deliberately cause trouble between us?”
I clutched my chest, putting on a hurt expression, then pointed

at Sarah:
“Let me introduce you this direct beauty is called Sarah.”
Brady looked at Sarah suspiciously, and when he noticed she was actually pretty attractive, his expression became complicated and his ears turned red.
Jessica’s eyes immediately dimmed.
Sarah stamped her feet in anger:
“What are you talking about? I did no such thing!”

“It’s fine, I get what you mean. Perfect timing–I don’t like this guy anymore anyway. He’s all yours.”
I patted her shoulder and left the group with their various expressions behind.
This was going to be quite the show.
