CHAPTER 8: Loyalty
I tensed in Jett’s arms.
He didn’t even slow down.
“My wife and I have no secrets. Save your breath.”
My eyes burned with tears.
Raven played his last card: “She was married before! To ME!”
Jett glanced back with contempt. “Old news.”
“We all date losers before finding the real thing.”
“You cheated while she was pregnant. Killed your own baby. And you have the balls to bring it up?”
“That’s not her shame. It’s yours.”
Raven crumbled completely.
He crawled to Senna, trying to help her up. “Let’s go.”
She shoved him away, screeching: “This is YOUR fault!”
“Three years of promises! Three years of ‘wait until I’m divorced!‘ If you’d given me
real money instead of scraps, would I need to frame her over shoes?”
Raven stared at her, stunned. “You said money didn’t matter to you.”
“So I’m that cheap to you? I’m worth NOTHING?”
I’d seen enough of their dysfunction. I tucked myself against Jett’s side and we left.
Outside the lounge, airport management was ripping the attendant a new one. She saw me and threw herself at my feet, face already bruised from her boss’s
hands.
I stepped around her without a word.
Why should I forgive someone who treated me like dirt?
At the hospital, my injuries were minor. But Jett insisted on a full workup, overnight
observation.
His eyes stayed red–rimmed.
Alone in the room, he crushed me against his chest, “No more airport pickups.
Ever.”
“Deal!” I said too quickly.

His face fell immediately.
Such a baby.
“I mean… I love picking you up! Just don’t complain when I’m late?”
He brightened instantly. “I’ll wait as long as it takes. Always.”
I made a victory sign behind his back.
Then caught my reflection in the mirror.
Busted.
I changed the subject fast. “Where are my flowers? Every hospital room needs flowers.”
“On it!” He practically ran out.
God, I love that man.
Hospital stays are boring as hell, especially when you’re not actually sick. That night, while Jett slept, I snuck downstairs for fresh air.
“Ivy.”
I jumped, spinning around.
Not Jett.
Raven.
