Austin’s schedule was planned down to the minute.
No sooner had we picked out wedding rings than he whisked me off to a bridal boutique without missing a beat.
I collapsed onto a yelvet sofa with a groan. “Austin, it’s already dark out. Can’t Can’t we try on dresses tomorrow?”
He unbuttoned his suit jacket with one hand, arching a brow. “No way. I don’t want to tempt fate.”
I couldn’t help but laugh. “Do I really seem that unreliable? We already have our marriage certificate–doesn’t that give you any security?”
He nodded solemnly. “Absolutely.”
I grabbed a throw pillow and tossed it at him. He caught it effortlessly and used the momentum to pull me to my feet.
“Don’t even think about escaping. Go try on the dress.”
As the attendant slowly drew back the dressing room curtain, a hush fell over the boutique.
I stepped out in a vintage European gown, catching sight of Austin standing stock still, his Adam’s apple bobbing visibly.
He approached, his voice rough with emotion, and gently wrapped me in his arms.
“Two years ago, at the Sotheby’s auction, I bought this dress and imagined how beautiful you’d look in it.“.

The attendants stifled their giggles behind their hands. Flustered, I buried my burning face in his chest.
Just then, the glass door was violently flung open.
“Let her go!”
Isaac stormed in, his face twisted with rage, reaching for me.
I recoiled from him in disgust.
His hand grasped at empty air, and for a brief moment, pain flickered in his eyes.
“Lori, you’ve taken this tantrum far enough! The video scandal, blocking me everywhere, even staging a fake marriage–fine, I can overlook all of that!”
He jabbed a finger at Austin, his voice hoarse.
“I stood up for you in front of everyone, I refused to marry Vivian despite all the pressure, and now you’re here trying on wedding dresses? Have you ever thought about how I feel?”
I stared at him coldly.
“Isaac, let me say it again–I’m not throwing a tantrum. Austin and I are really married We got our certificate on the very day you were supposed to marry me! The moment you left me without hesitation to go to Vivian, we were finished.”
He shook his head, stumbling back half a step.
“So just because I left you that day, you immediately married another
man?”
A laugh escaped me.

“You let the pregnant Vivian move into our home and expected me to help raise her child. Put yourself in my shoes–if I were pregnant with another man’s child and asked you to raise it, would you agree?”
His face went deathly pale. He rushed to explain, “Lori, it’s not the same- you’re twisting things! What happened with Vivian was a mistake, and the child is innocent. No matter what, you’re the one I love! Can’t you give me a little grace after all these years together?”
I answered, firm and unyielding, “Not a chance. Haven’t you always said I’m spoiled? Well, now you get your wish. Please leave, and don’t ever show up in my life again.”
My words seemed to cut him deeply.
He used to accuse me of being a spoiled princess, and now I was admitting it without hesitation.
Isaac’s eyes suddenly reddened.
Just as I turned to leave, he dropped to his knees and grabbed the hem of
my gown.
“Lori, I was wrong! I swear I’ll cut all ties with Vivian–I don’t want the child anymore!”
He pleaded desperately, “Divorce him right now. We’ll get married- today, this instant!”
