Chapter 9
Isaac’s words left me momentarily speechless, so shameless they actually made me laugh.
Austin, who had been quietly standing behind me this whole time, finally lost his patience. His face darkened as he gently ushered me into the fitting room, murmuring, “Stay in here. Don’t come out.”
I nodded obediently, peeking through the crack in the door. As I watched Austin loosen his tie, I couldn’t help but feel a little sorry for Isaac.
Outside, Austin let out a cold, mocking laugh.
“Isaac, do you think I’m easy to push around? You stand here, in front of me, and ask my wife to divorce me?”
Isaac stood up, his expression stormy.
“You’re just taking advantage of Lori’s anger at me. What’s there for you to be so smug about?”
Austin’s voice suddenly turned sharp as a blade.
“Eight years. I waited for her for eight years. If that’s luck, then I earned every bit of it.
“And you? She gave you everything… The fearless Ms. Hoffman I once knew became so cautious she could barely breathe in front of your mother. She grew up in the Hoffman family without ever lifting a finger, but for you, she learned to cook hundreds of dishes! She even washed your shirts by hand… And how did you repay her? You brought your mistress into your home and threw her out!”

A sigh escaped me. So that’s how I looked in other people’s eyes–so small, so humble before Isaac.
Austin was growing more agitated, his chest heaving with a deep breath.
“She gave you so much, only to end up like this? She deserves so much better!”
Isaac was stunned.
“She told you all this? She even confided her private matters to you? Were you two hiding things from me all along…?”
“Disgusting.
Austin grabbed an ashtray from the table and hurled it straight at Isaac.
Blood immediately began streaming down Isaac’s forehead.
His eyes flashed with rage as he lunged, fist cocked to strike Austin.
Seeing the fight about to break out, I burst out of the fitting room and stepped firmly between them.
“Isaac,” I said coldly, “please leave. Now.”
Isaac stared at me, disbelief etched across his face. “Lori, you’re actually protecting him?”
Blood trickled from the gash on his temple, running down his cheek and mingling with tears.
The face that had once seemed so handsome and refined was now swollen and twisted, his white shirt stained with blood and dust. He looked nothing like the charming gentleman I used to know.
I frowned and turned away, unwilling to look at him any longer.

He forced a smile, one more painful than tears, and staggered toward the door.
At that moment, a pair of warm hands covered my eyes from behind. Austin’s low voice sounded in my ear, “Wifey, don’t look at him
anymore.”
froze, then sighed helplessly.
So, even this decisive, ruthless man could be childishly possessive.
Clearly, I still hadn’t made him feel secure enough.
Meanwhile, the scandal surrounding Isaac and Vivian continued to spiral online, far beyond what I could have imagined.
As internet sleuths dug deeper, even more shocking truths came to light.
It turned out Vivian had spiked Isaac’s drink that night.
Isaac had been completely in the dark, thinking he’d simply lost control after drinking too much.
The real bombshell? Vivian had eight different “sugar daddies” at the same time–Isaac was just the most eligible of the bunch.
When she realized she couldn’t even be sure who the baby’s father was, she chose Isaac as her scapegoat without hesitation.
The Wilcox family’s century–old medical legacy was left in ruins, with the internet now mocking them as “the cuckold family.”
Under the weight of endless ridicule, Isaac finally broke.
He got a new phone number and tried to call me. The moment I recognized his voice, I hung up.

A text message followed.
“Lori, I’m sorry. I won’t bother you again.”

I deleted it without hesitation. I wanted nothing more to do with him.
It was only later that I learned he had attempted suicide that day, swallowing a bottle of sleeping pills.
Though he was rescued, he developed severe anxiety and depression–so debilitating that he could barely take care of himself.
As for Vivian, one of her sugar daddies—a financial executive—lost his job and was blacklisted from the industry because of the scandal.
Blinded by hatred for Vivian, he attacked her with a knife during one of her prenatal checkups.
She was found lying in a pool of blood.
In the end, the baby couldn’t be saved, and Vivian would never be able to have children again.
After reading the news, I glanced meaningfully at Austin, who was sipping his coffee. “See? That’s the price of cheating.”
“Pfft-”
He nearly spit out his coffee, scrambling to wipe his mouth. “Don’t worry, Wifey. I’m loyal to the core!”
