With the guard there, a wave of relief washed over me.
The abandoned equipment shed was a ten–minute run from the exam hall. I managed to slide into my seat and get my hands on the test paper just before the fifteen–minute cutoff.
I had no time to spare for the stunned comments in the chat. My entire focus narrowed down to the paper in front of me.
The exams lasted three days, and with each one, I felt more and more in my element.
But the moment I walked out of the final exam, I was met by several police officers.

“Did you hear? On the first day of exams, Scarlett was almost assaulted by Zane. They’re saying Luna was the mastermind.”
“What does Luna have to do with it? You don’t think it’s because of the Harvard spot, do you?”
“Luna is so vicious. If something happened to Scarlett, the spot would fall back to her, right? Girls from the countryside are always so conniving.”
I had been scouted by this prestigious high school my junior year, brought in with a hundred thousand dollar scholarship to be their ticket to an Ivy League acceptance.
That hundred thousand dollars? My father took every cent to pay off his gambling debts.

Every month, he would take a train into the city just to take more than half of my financial aid.
Everyone in school knew. I was the poor girl from a small town. I had a crass, degenerate father. No one wanted to get close to me.
The chat seemed to be waiting with bated breath for my downfall.
[Chat. Is she going to end up in jail right after graduation?]
[Chat: She looked pretty serious during the exams. She probably could have gotten into a good university. What a shame. You reap what you
Chat
Chat: Don’t jump to conclusions. I don’t think Luna is that kind of person. What if it’s all a misunderstanding…?]
A few scattered comments defending me were instantly buried under an avalanche of vitriol.
I lowered my gaze, trying to figure out how I could possibly prove my innocence.
Being able to see these comments was already unbelievable enough.
But I never expected that when the police took me away, it wouldn’t be for an interrogation…
