“I won’t agree to a divorce. We said we’d be together forever.”
I stared at him, expressionless, and carefully peeled his fingers off my
arm.
“Together? What, by ignoring your cheating?”

“Once you were taking those lovey–dovey photos, the wedding pics, it was
over.”
“I didn’t cheat! Those photos were work, Chloe, just work.”
“The wedding, that was only because you didn’t show. I just needed someone to stand in.”
He was desperate, trying to make me believe him.
“The CEO spot, me being your husband, it’s always going to be yours. Always, Chloe.”
The old me would’ve been thrilled to hear that.
It was what I’d worked for for years. The culmination of all my efforts.
But now, it just felt like another chain locking me in.
“I don’t want it anymore, Liam. Not the CEO, not you.”
I pushed through the goons and left without looking back.
“Chloe…”
“Liam, your mother and grandpa are looking for you!”
Sarah ran over, catching Liam before he could chase after me again.

The wedding debacle was all over the internet. The PR department was working overtime.
I didn’t care about any of it. I went home, fell into bed and slept the whole afternoon.
When I woke up, I responded to the messages my assistant had sent me.
Then, I sent my resignation letter to the board of directors.
It wasn’t long before Liam’s grandpa called, telling me to come to the family home.
I figured I owed him an explanation, so I agreed to go.
Besides him, nobody in the family ever treated me with respect.
Especially Liam’s mom. She hated my guts, she was always picking at me.
When I got there, she and Liam were there, and to my surprise, so was Sarah. They were all laughing it up.
The second she saw me, Liam’s mom was all sour. “You still have the nerve to show up here?”
“You ran off, you almost humiliated my son, and tried to threaten us with your power!”
“You think you are the ruler of this family? What is it that you want?”
