The bodyguards were no joke. I was trying to think of a strategy.
That was when a voice yelled from across the room. “Song Wen Yu! Who the hell told you that you could act like this?”
I stopped and looked up. It was Liam’s grandpa, coming down the stairs.
When he got to us, his cane struck Liam’s mom with force.
“You’re not even part of this family. Why are you trying to act like you belong here?”
He never liked Liam’s mom, especially since she was so against me.
She was in pain but didn’t fight it, she needed the family money. She couldn’t fight him.

It was Liam who finally spoke. “Grandpa, stop! Don’t hurt her.”
“It was Chloe’s fault for ruining the wedding!”
“She attacked mom and hit Sarah!”
His grandfather shot him an angry look before finally speaking.
“You’re ridiculous! Look at what you have done. Why are you trying to defend her?”
Sarah tried to play the sweet victim. “It’s all my fault, Grandpa Levi. Don’t blame Liam or his mother!”
But he didn’t even look at her. He walked right past her and over to me.
“Chloe, are you done? How about we talk about the company?”
I helped him sit down. “Grandpa, I already made up my mind. I am leaving.”
His face fell, a slight sadness showing in his eyes.
He had taken me in, he had always been kind.
“I’ll stay a little longer while you look for someone else to fill my role,” I said, my voice softening.
Liam’s mom was furious. “Dad! Why are you trying to get her to stay?!”
“She ruined us! We need to get rid of her now!”
Liam thought I was trying to play games with them. “Chloe, just stop! What’s the point?!”
Then he complained to his grandfather, “Grandpa, you’re always giving her special treatment!

“Yesterday, she ran away from the wedding, now this? It is getting out of hand!”
He was still treating this like it was just a hissy fit.
His grandfather sat there, his eyes burning through them both.
Liam’s mom and Liam both cowered a little. They knew what he was like when he got serious.
He had always coddled his grandson, but this wedding mess was too much.
It was such a slap in the face to everyone.
And he knew Liam’s mom was the one behind it all.
He turned to his daughter–in–law, “Song Wen Yu, I’m canceling your credit cards. You go back to work tomorrow.”
Then he looked at Liam, and his butler threw a stack of papers in front of
him.
“And you! Take a look at these, and see what kind of person you hired.”
There, scattered across the floor were a bunch of photos of Sarah, with other people.
