Chapter 3
Watching the finger sink into the water, I spun around in panic and without thinking, jumped into the lake.
But I’d underestimated its depth. The moment I hit the water, I was choking and disoriented, left with only survival instincts. After struggling for what felt like forever, I passed out from exhaustion.]
When I regained consciousness, Knox was by my bedside, having changed out of his matching swimwear with Brielle.[]
“For God’s sake, can’t you act like an adult? Jumping into a lake that deep?”
“Have you forgotten you can’t swim? Risking your life for a model used to scare me? Was it really worth it?“]
He still believed it was a model?]
Of course–only the media and I knew the truth, yet not one of them had spoken up for me. And I suddenly knew why–they were all afraid of Knox Riverstone.]]
So, if Knox had intervened when the media started their coverage, he could have quickly prevented the news from leaking, and the kidnappers wouldn’t have killed Jax out of desperation.]
That was to say, everything could have been prevented.[]
But these thoughts were useless now. I just spoke coldly: “Knox, I want a divorce.“]
He couldn’t believe his ears and snapped, “Riley, you’re going too far.”
“Over something this trivial, you’re asking for a divorce?”
“Are you jealous? Think I was protecting Brielle?“]]
“She was wearing a bikini–if you’d grabbed her like that, she could have been exposed. That’s why I stopped you.”
“You’re both women. Can’t you understand each other? Why do you have to make things difficult for her?“]
As expected, his answer was the same as always. In his eyes, Brielle could do no wrong, while I was just being unreasonable.
But Brielle was the one who inserted herself into our relationship, and then taunted me after my son was kidnapped!]
Despite my anger, I couldn’t be bothered to argue anymore.]]
Seeing I didn’t respond, he tossed a medical report onto the bed.[]
“You’re pregnant, Your hormones are elevated, causing mood swings. I can understand you lashing out at me, but don’t drag uninvolved people into this.”
“Have the baby, and afterward, I’ll buy you whatever you want.“]
“Remember how Jax always wanted to vacation in Hawaii? After the baby’s born, the four of us can go together.”
Hearing this, I laughed bitterly inside. Knox, your vision will never come true.]
Just then, his phone rang. It was Brielle.[]
“Knox, how’s your wife doing? I feel terrible about losing her finger model. It’s all my fault.“]
“I’ve contacted the model company to make her a new one. I hope she can forgive me.”

Knox’s lips curved into a satisfied smile as he looked at me. I knew what he wanted–for me to praise Brielle’s
kindness and
generosity.
Her voice came again, this time suddenly taking on a coy tone. “Um, could you come over to my place? I have good news to share with you.”
After hanging up, Knox hesitated, clearly trying to come up with an excuse.[]
“Just go.” I said before he could speak
“That’s more like it. Take care of yourself.” With that, he hurried out.]
Without wasting a moment, when he left, I took a taxi to the nearest hospital and scheduled an abortion
Ten years of marriage, and I had lost two children
Lying on the operating table, I sobbed uncontrollably]
The doctor, seeing my distress, suggested I could stop the procedure if I wasn’t ready]
I firmly shook my head.
Chapter 3
While I truly loved both my children, Jax had just been murdered, his body still missing, and the person responsible for all this, Knox, was currently entangled with his mistress. I needed time and energy to seek justice for Jax, and I couldn’t let this unborn child become leverage for Knox to use al
gainst me in the future.
Hours later, the procedure finally over, I dragged my exhausted body home. As soon as I turned on my phone, I was bombarded with media coverage.]
In the news photos were two silhouettes captured by reporters–clearly Knox and Brielle, though they’d mistaken Brielle for me.
The headline read:]
“THE SOLE HEIR BRUTALLY MURDERED, BODY NOT YET FOUND, RIVERSTONE COUPLE RUSHES TO HOSPITAL TO PROTECT PREGNANCY.“]
