Chapter 25 Some Vague Memories
She and Nora were talking when suddenly someone shouted, “Ms. McLean is here, and Mr. Arellano too!”
Suddenly, there was a moment of chaos in the banquet hall, everyone’s eyes turned to the door, and the media rushed forward with cameras in hand.
The flashlights were flickering on and off.
I don’t know what I saw, but there were whispers in the crowd.
Graciela and Nora were stuck outside the crowd, not sure what was happening.
At that moment, she heard a reporter excitedly ask, “Mr. Arellano, is this an official announcement with Ms. McLean?”
Official announcement?
Graciela and Nora looked at each other.
The crowd watching dispersed from the middle, automatically
creating a pathway.
Lamar and Leanna, both dressed to the nines and looking aloof
and elegant, appeared in Graciela’s eyes.
He walked towards the direction where Graciela was, side by
side with her, one step, two steps.
In the end, Graciela saw all of them.
The two stood side by side, the man looking cold and noble,
while the woman appeared gentle and charming. They were truly a perfect match of talent and beauty.
And their hands, fingers intertwined.
Graciela’s gaze fell blankly on the intertwined hands, feeling
like her heart had been hit by a sledgehammer.
In a daze, Lamar’s voice came and went.
“Let me introduce you, this is my girlfriend, Leanna.”
Graciela felt like there was a sealed glass fishbowl over her
head, all the sounds were shut out.
Like watching a silent movie, she saw Leanna give a sweet and
shy smile, gently snuggling up to Lamar.
She saw Lamar raise his finger and lightly scratch Leanna’s
nose, with a look of indulgence in his eyes.
She saw everyone’s mouths opening and closing, with expressions of envy, jealousy, admiration, or curiosity.
She had nothing to do with all the hustle and bustle.
Her head hurt so bad, like thousands of needles were stabbing at the same time.
Some blurry fragments flashed through her mind, like a
slideshow on repeat.
Hands clasped tightly, sweet smile, scratching the tip of the nose with hand.
Why does this feel so familiar? It’s like she’s been through it before.
Suddenly, a fragment flashed through her mind.
On the dark double bed, a tall man was lying on his side, fast
asleep. For some reason, Graciela just couldn’t see his face.
There was a woman lying next to him, looking at him with eyes
full of love.
A moment later, she carefully took the man’s hand and slipped
her slender fingers into his, fitting perfectly. Then she looked
up, revealing a humble and sweet smile.
Graciela was shocked, the woman’s face was exactly like hers!
Graciela was sure, This is her, but not her.
She grew up in the palms of her brothers since she was young, always proud and confident. When has she ever shown such a humble smile?
What’s going on? Who is that man?
She frowned in pain and hammered her head with her hand.
“Some people are just born lucky. They win at the starting line as soon as they are born,” Nora couldn’t help but turn to Graciela and sigh as she watched Lamar and Leanna, who were surrounded by the media, “Not like us office workers….Grace, what’s wrong with you?”
Graciela by her side was already pale, sweating profusely, looking very painful.
Nora was shocked and quickly supported Graciela, “Grace,
what’s wrong? Don’t scare me! Where does it hurt?”
Graciela didn’t respond to her, she just kept hitting her head in
pain.
“Grace, Grace,” Nora panicked, reaching out to grab Graciela’s
hand, trying to stop Graciela from hurting herself.
Little did she know, she had just touched Graciela’s hand when
Graciela fainted, falling straight back.
“Grace!” Nora exclaimed, too late to catch Graciela.
Just as Graciela, was about to fall to the ground, a figure appeared and caught her before she hit the ground.
“Mr. Morrison!” Nora saw the person clearly and blurted out the
name.
Ambrose nodded slightly at her.
Their movements and sounds attracted everyone’s attention.
For a moment, all eyes were on them.
The media caught the news and quickly took photos.
Lamar furrowed his brow, let go of Leanna’s hand, and walked
over.
Leanna bit her lip and followed along.
When Lamar saw Ambrose’s hand tightly wrapped around
Graciela’s waist, and Graciela leaning unconscious against
Ambrose’s chest, Lamar’s frown deepened.
He couldn’t explain what he was feeling inside.
“Oh no! What’s wrong with Ms. Ferguson?” Leanna gasped,
covering her mouth. “Lamar, let’s hurry and take Ms. Ferguson to the hospital!”
Ambrose glanced at her and said casually, “Don’t bother Mr.
Arellano and Ms. McLean! I’ll take care of myself, Ambrose’s own person!”
Helena, who was just discussing the project, heard some noise and hurried over.
“What happened to Grace?”
Nora quickly told the story.
Helena made a quick decision and said, “Thanks, Mr. Morrison, could you please take Grace to the hospital?”
Ambrose raised his lips, his eyes forming a smile: “Of course, I’d be happy to!”
He gently picked up Graciela horizontally and walked steadily
outside.
Helena and Nora followed closely, one on the left and one on
the right.
Lamar involuntarily followed out the door.
A delicate cold hand grabbed him.
He turned around.
Leanna’s eyes were as gentle as water, filled with him, making
him have to stop in his tracks.
