underway, but he’s willing to set it all aside just to lift my spirits. I can only conclude that he truly adores me.”
I remained silent, simply helping him don his jacket as he prepared to depart.
Once he left, I had three days remaining to complete the removal of my belongings from our home.
Farewell, Killian.
On my departure day, I set out early for the airport. Upon arrival, Killian unexpectedly called, his voice laced with worry and distress.
“Darling, why have you listed all my gifts to you on that second–hand website?”
I replied calmly, “I’ve grown tired of those items. I used to favor pink when I was younger, but people evolve, don’t they?”
Relieved that it was merely a matter of color preference, Killian exhaled audibly.
“I was so alarmed. I feared you had fallen out of love with me, my wife.” His tone softened. “I just disembarked and saw a screenshot of the online listing sent by a friend. I was genuinely concerned.”
“Since pink no longer appeals to you, I’ll refrain from giving you the gift I purchased this time,” he continued. “I’ll be home in about an hour. When I return, do tell me your current color preference!”
He still spoke as though he cherished me, but deep down, I knew it was all deception.
I acknowledged his words, gently reminding him, “You may open the present I left for you today.”
I ended the call and ascended to the airport’s upper level. From there, I had a clear view of him on the ground floor, his arms encircling Anastacia as they exited together. Despite their sunglasses and face coverings, I recognized him instantly.
After all, he was the man I had loved for a decade.
As I prepared to board, an attendant kindly directed me to my gate.
