I couldn’t say anything. I felt unsure. I heard the tell–tale signs of the chopper. Aleck walked back into the house and came to me.

When we got there, the jet was already waiting for us. “Where are Mac and the others?” I asked them.
“We’re heading home first. Then they’ll follow behind,” Aleck said, squeezing my waist. The flight back to New York was quiet. I could see them sneaking looks at me.
“What is it?” I asked.
“What is what?” Dean asked.
“You both keep sneaking looks at me,” I said.
“We’re trying to figure out how to tell you,” Aleck replied.
“Tell me what?” I asked hesitantly.
“That your ass isn’t leaving that house ever again,” Dean said, looking at me.
“So, you intend to keep me locked away from the world?” I asked.
“Yes,” they both answered.
“If that means you’re safe and alive, then yes. You could try fighting us on that, baby girl, but you won’t win,” Aleck said.
I just rolled my eyes. Of course, they would become cavemen. I knew everything they were doing was to keep me safe. I stood up and looked at

“I’m going to take a nap. Somebody kept me up last night,” I said, walking towards the room.
“And somebody wanted to be fucked; that’s why you didn’t sleep,” I heard one of them whisper and just shook my head. I lay down and closed my eyes. I was safe, I was with them, and I was going home. I let my thoughts take me to sleep.
I don’t know how long I was asleep for, but I woke up to hands on my body. I sat up instantly, thinking I was back there, and it was Silas. When I opened my eyes, Dean’s head was between my legs.

When she came out, she looked a bit more composed. I could see her looking at us but didn’t say anything. When the car drove into the compound, she looked at us. “You moved here?” she asked.
“Yes. After the funeral, reporters kept coming after us. This is big enough for all of us,” Dean said.
“All of us who?” she asked. When the car pulled up to the front door, the car door was thrown open, and Mom was standing there. The minute she saw Mom, she started crying. When Mallory ran out of the house, she began crying harder. We just left them there and headed in.
I called Mac and Diego to check in. They were already back in Cape Town and were heading home. I headed up and went to grab a shower. I needed to go to the office. When I got back downstairs, they were in the living room.
“I’m heading to the company. She does not leave this house. Do the three of you understand that?” I said, looking at our parents and Mallory.
“Yes, yes,” Mom said.
“Mom, we mean it. Layla, do not step out of this house, or your ass is in trouble. We’ll be back later,” Dean said from behind me.

After they left, I told them what happened. Mal just held onto me.
“Where’s Andrew?” I asked her.
“He’s at work. Now that you’re back home safe, we can go back to our place,” she said.
“No, you’re all staying here,” I said.
“Sweetie, you will need space and privacy,” Aunt Pam said, and I just shook my head.
“This house is too big for the three of us. You’ll all stay here. We want you here, I want you here,” I said.
Uncle Matt and Aunt Pam left me and Mal alone. We sat talking about everything.
“I have something to show you,” she said, grabbing my hands and leading me to the back of the house.
“Where are we going, Mal?”
“You’ll see,” she said, smiling.
I followed her to the kitchen, then down to the basement, then through a hidden door. When we walked in, and she switched the lights on, I was shocked. I walked over to the small enclosure and looked at her. When she saw me, she looked scared.
“Hi, Nella,” I said.
“No, no, no, no, no, you’re dead. I killed you. You’re dead,” she said, looking around. I stood up and looked at Mallory.
“How long has she been here?”
“The day she shot you. The security guards got her. I told them to lock her up here. Dean and Aleck were losing their minds, so they told Mac, I think. To do what I asked. They lost their minds, Layla. Aleck passed out in the emergency room, and so did Dean. They spent their days locked in their office, drinking all day and night,” she said.

“We stayed because we were truly scared they would hurt themselves. I knew they had those thoughts, and so did Andrew. Some days they didn’t go to work; they just stayed by themselves. They stopped speaking to each other, even to us. When they did go to work, that was it. They came home and just stayed quiet,” she said.
“I thought maybe they moved on with their lives,” I said.
“No, they didn’t. I’m happy you’re still here. I didn’t know how to let you go. None of us knew what to do with ourselves,” she said.
I hugged her. “Thank you, Mal. Thank you for keeping them alive.”
Dean
When we got back from the office, we brought Detective Rawlins with us. She was just walking out of the kitchen.
“Jesus Christ. She’s still alive. You were telling the truth?” He said, looking at us.
“Did you think we lied, or we were crazy?” Aleck asked him.
“Shit like this doesn’t happen often,” he said.
Before we got back home, we called Mallory and spoke to her. We told her we were bringing the detective with us. We told her what we told him so she could get the story right.

“Okay then. I’ll have to make this an official report. I’ll need to involve the F.B.I. They will need to speak to you. They’ll handle finding Mr. Reid.”
“Okay.”
After he left, we sat down in the living room.
“I need a phone, and I need clothes. Where’s my laptop?” She asked.
“Everything is in our room,” I said, caressing her thighs. She looked at me and smiled a knowing smile.
