Chapter 17
Linda leaned wearily against the sofa. Hearing the voice, she didn’t even lift her eyelids.
Elaine hadn’t expected Linda to completely ignore her. She was so furious her fake smile was about to crack.
But she still held back her anger and walked over to stand in front of Linda.
Staring at Linda’s expressionless yet stunningly beautiful face, she gritted her teeth.
That hoodie was so childish and ugly, yet on Linda, it looked absolutely adorable. If she wore it, it would definitely look hideous.
Elaine pulled herself together and got straight to the point. “Linda, can I just not move out for now? Please?”
Linda tugged the corner of her mouth into a sarcastic smile but still didn’t raise her eyes to look at Elaine.
“Linda, don’t be mad. I really like the room I’m living in now. I just want to stay a bit longer. In a few days, I promise I’ll move out and give the room to you. Okay?” Elaine’s face was full of grievance.
Only then did Linda slowly lift her gaze and sneer, “Elaine, big movie queen, what kind of act is this?”
That pitiful look she was giving was like she was the one being bullied. Linda sneered.
Wasn’t it Elaine’s own idea that as long as she and Jasper broke off the engagement, she could do whatever she wanted? Thought Linda. She just wanted her own room back. Why was she the one acting all wronged?
Movie queen? Elaine widened her eyes. She knew Linda was doing it on purpose.
Elaine had entered the entertainment industry at sixteen. As the cherished little princess of the Preston family, she hit the ground running with tons of resources. Only lead roles.
Four years in, the Preston family had poured billions into her career, yet every year at film festivals and TV awards, she didn’t even get a single nomination.
Winning the Best Actress trophy had been her lifelong dream. And Linda was deliberately rubbing salt in her wound.
“What’s wrong?” Eleanor walked over carrying a cup of honey tea she’d brewed herself.
Seeing Elaine’s unhappy expression, she asked with concern.
“Mom!” Elaine immediately threw herself onto Eleanor, full of grievance.
“Wait!” Eleanor raised her hand to stop her, afraid she might spill the tea she’d brought for Linda.
“Linda, try this. I’m not sure if I put enough honey in it, if it’s sweet enough.” Eleanor handed the cup

Linda.
Linda took a sip, a smile playing at the corne
of her lips. “It’s delicious, thank you,
Mom.
Eleanor ruffled her hair. “You don’t have to say thank you to Mom. If you like it, just tell me anytime you want some, and I’ll make it for you.”
Linda smiled happily. Her resentment toward Jasper
ad finally been eased by Eleanor’s deep motherly love.
“Mom…” Elaine, seeing herself completely ignored, felt a mix of jealousy and grievance.
Eleanor looked at her. “Elaine, what’s wrong?”
Elaine glanced at Linda, then carefully asked Eleanor, “Mom, can I just not move out for now?”
Eleanor frowned. “Move where?”
“I mean… move out of the room I’m living in now,” Elaine said pitifully, “I know this room was prepared by Dad and you for Linda, but I’m used to living here. I want to wait a few more days before moving out. Is that okay?”
“Who told you to move out?” An old, angry voice came from the stairway.
