Chapter 22
Chapter 22
Elaine spoke as she made a show of bowing to Linda.
“I’m sorry! Linda, I’m so sorry, it’s all my fault!” cried Elaine. “Everything in the Preston family is yours–I should’ve given the room back to you the moment you returned. It’s all my fault!”
Linda watched Elaine’s performance with a blank face. With acting skills like that, she could’ve easily taken home an Oscar.
“Linda, I already apologized. Please, don’t pick on Grandma anymore, okay?” Seeing that Linda remained unmoved, Elaine switched tactics and tried guilt–tripping her. “She’s old now. She can’t take this kind of stress. When Grandpa was alive, he never let her suffer even a little. What you’re doing is too much!”
“You unfilial girl!” Edith pointed a trembling finger at Linda, her whole body shaking with rage.
The very idea of having to apologize to Linda already made her uncomfortable. But a bet was a bet–she lost, she had to own up. Though reluctant, she had made up her mind to apologize.
But after hearing Elaine’s words, she felt utterly humiliated.
Right. Back when Mr. Preston was alive, she had never been subjected to such indignity. And now she was being forced to apologize to a junior?
Suddenly, Edith’s eyes rolled back–and she fainted on the spot.
“Grandma!” Elaine panicked and rushed to support her.
“Edith!” Eleanor also lost her composure but kept a shred of rationality. While helping Edith lie down, she quickly ordered, “Elaine, call Joel! Ask where he is and tell him to come back right away!”
The room fell into chaos. Eleanor took charge and had people carry Edith back to her room to lie down.
“Grandma, please be okay… Elaine sat by the bed, tears falling like rain.
“What do we do? Why isn’t Joel back yet!” Eleanor was pacing in a panic.

When an elderly person faints, it’s no small matter.
Linda stood to the side, arms crossed, looking completely casual like a bystander.

She glanced at Edith–her complexion didn’t look abnormal. The corner of her lips curled into a mocking smirk.
Fainting to avoid apologizing? She thought. No respect for age, only pride.

“Alright! I’ll have someone get the needles.” Eleanor made a swift decision the moment she heard about the possible consequences.
Elaine looked at Linda, clearly skeptical
She didn’t understand medicine, but seeing how confidently Linda spoke, she didn’t dare question her either.
She could only cry beside the bed. “Grandma, please hang in there…”
Everyone’s attention was focused on Linda’s words.
Only Linda noticed–when she mentioned the “108 needle” part, Edith’s scalp visibly tightened, and her brows furrowed hard.

Scared? Linda sneered. Then why not wake up already?
“Mom, what’s wrong with Grandma?” Just then, a voice full of urgency came from the doorway.
