Chapter 2
“Gianna! You made Arnold leave again?”
Her mother, Carmen marched up, full of rage. “Can you stop for once? Can’t you be sensible like Rosie? Why do you always cause trouble? You begged to marry Arnold, and now that it’s finally happening, you don’t know how to treasure it! The wedding’s starting and the groom ran off -what kind of mess is this?”
Gianna didn’t say a word. She just cast a cold glance at her biased parents.
This was her first time seeing them since she came back to life.
If not for how this would embarrass them, they wouldn’t even care about her.
They didn’t even care when she died…
Last life, when she was dying, she begged them for help. But they were busy throwing a grand birthday party for their adopted daughter, Rosie.
While that happy family was laughing it up, she was drowning in despair.
Rosie’s birthday… ended up being the day she died.
“Gianna, why can’t you ever just behave for once?”
“You’ve shamed us—and Rosie, too! I don’t expect you to be as capable as Rosie. I just want you to stop causing drama!”
Her mother scolded in anger.
Gianna stayed calm. “No need to worry. The wedding will go on as planned. You can wait outside.”
Her father looked at her, then pulled Carmen out of the room.
Once they were gone, Rosie turned back, her smile smug and mocking.
She leaned in close and whispered, “Gianna, today you’re gonna be the biggest joke in the whole city! There won’t be a groom at your wedding! Arnold went to find Delia. He’s not coming back for days!”
Smack!
A hard slap landed right across Rosie’s face.
She stared at Gianna in total shock.
“Are you crazy?!” Rosie clutched her cheek.
Gianna stared her down. “That’s right. And you’d better be ready–because I’m about to show you just how crazy I can get!”
There was a chill in her eyes that made Rosie’s back go cold.
She looked at Gianna, startled.
Was this really the same timid, spineless Gianna she used to mock? That look in her eyes–it wasn’t right.
Gianna knew their parents always loved her more. So Gianna had always been insecure, always sucking up like a little lapdog.
Gianna walked out of the dressing room,
She went to one of the hotel’s private rooms.
Inside, Ranger Walsh and Brendan Curtis were waiting.

“Arnold’s gone?” Ranger’s hair was white, but he was still full of energy.
Gianna nodded. “Does your promise still stand?”
“I owe you a life. As long as you don’t regret it, I agree.”
Brendan sat on the sofa across from the old man.
He had that cold, commanding air of a man in power. That devilishly good–looking face, known across the capital. When he looked up just a little, there was a chill in his eyes that made people instinctively tense up.
“That brat Arnold’s completely out of line! He’ll regret this one day! He doesn’t get it, but we do.”
Ranger stood up. “Brendan, do what we discussed with Gianna. Swap out the groom. Get rid of everything that has to do with Arnold. Since Gianna’s chosen you, you treat her well. The wedding goes on.”
He sighed lightly and walked out.
Now, it was just Gianna and Brendan in the room.
Gianna snuck a peek at him. She didn’t quite dare meet his eyes.
Brendan–he was the most mysterious and powerful man in the whole Curtis family.
His
gaze always carried weight–too heavy to read.
And right now, even in silence, it felt like it could crush her.
