Chapter 5
Rosie wore a worried look on her face–but deep down, she was thrilled.
She wanted Gianna to make a fool of herself.
That way, everyone in the Carlton family would hate her even more, and her place in the family would sink even lower!
“What are you talking about–no groom? Isn’t my groom standing right here?”
“Let’s welcome the bride and groom!” Right on cue, the emcee’s voice echoed through the hall.
Brendan entered, arm–in–arm with Gianna.
The moment they stepped into the banquet hall, a wave of shock spread across the crowd.
“Wait… wasn’t Arnold the groom?”
“Hold on–that’s Brendan, isn’t it?”
“No way… Brendan is the groom?!”
“What happened to Arnold?”
Everyone started looking around, confused, ‘searching for Arnold. But he was nowhere in sight.
Instead, all they saw was Gianna and Brendan walking together onto the stage, hand in hand.
The spotlight hit them just right–they looked like a perfect match.
Gianna took the mic from the host, smiled politely, and looked out at the guests.
“Thank you all for coming to my wedding with Brendan. I heard some people whispering Arnold’s name just now, so let me be clear–the groom today is Brendan. If anyone keeps bringing up that jerk, my husband might get upset!”
She knew one thing for sure–no one in this room dared mess with Brendan.
He was known for being ruthless. If he wanted to destroy someone, he didn’t even blink.
Sure, everyone was still confused about why the groom suddenly changed. But after Granna’s little reminder, the entire room fell silent.
The big screen behind them changed.
Now it was showing wedding photos of Gianna and Brendan.
Even though the guests were all shocked and buzzing inside, they only dared sneak glances at Ranger and whisper quietly to each other.
Over at the Carlton family’s table, things weren’t any calmer.
“Dad, Mom… what’s going on?”
“Wasn’t Sis supposed to marry Arnold?”
Why are there wedding photos of her and Mr. Curtis?”
Rosie frowned. Brendan had always been her dream man. She wanted to marry the most powerful man in the entire capital.
And now–he was standing beside Gianna at her wedding?
What the hell was happening?
Was he crazy?
Even ineir inree sons beside them were sitting there, completely aumprounaea,
But while they were still frozen in shock, the wedding carried on like nothing had happened. Everything was running smooth as butter.
Gianna had clearly planned everything with the emcee in advance.
So the whole ceremony flowed perfectly, without a hitch.
By the time it was all over and the guests had left, her parents rushed over to Gianna.
Carmen was furious. “Gianna, are you out of your mind? Wasn’t Arnold supposed to be your groom?!”
“Gianna, what’s going on? Where’s Arnold?”
Her three older brothers also looked at her, all frowning hard.
“I get it now–Arnold didn’t come back in time, so Brendan stepped in just to cover for the situation, right?” Rosie suddenly lit up as if she’d cracked the case.
It had to be that! They just didn’t want the wedding to be a disaster, so Brendan stood in temporarily.
Otherwise, why on earth would he marry someone like Gianna?
Besides, she was technically supposed to be his nephew’s fiancée. Him marrying her? That’s just messed up!
That must be why Ranger didn’t say anything either.
Yes–that had to be it!
Rosie stared at Brendan, full of hope, sure she was right.
“You all have a problem with me being Gianna’s husband? Well, too bad. We’re already married.”
Brendan held up Gianna’s hand.
On their fingers were matching wedding rings.
