Life moved on through intensive coursework and this weirdly charged atmosphere between me and Tristan.[]
Drama from back home occasionally exploded into my feed.[]
One morning, I woke up to a headline that instantly killed any hope of more sleep:

[Nina threw herself at him and probably staged those photos for clout. Desperate much?]

Nina instantly became a laughingstock.
But plenty of people thought Lennon went too far:[]

His team immediately damage–controlled:
【Lennon has been struggling with personal issues recently. We deeply apologize for any impact.] [
But nobody was buying it.
While the bad press kept snowballing, his former bandmates suddenly went live with a stream titled:[]

They came out swinging, looking like they’d been dying to tell this story:
“We’ve been holding this in forever! That whole breakup with his ex? Nina absolutely sabotaged it. Always hanging all over him, galling him ‘big brother,‘ touchy–feely as hell while playing innocent. Girl’s manipulative as fuck!“]
“We told him to back off since he had a girlfriend. Did he listen? Hell no! Said we were being dramatic and his girl was ‘too sensitive.‘ The way he defended Nina was disgusting! Looking back, we feel terrible for his ex. Sweet girl, Boston genius, gorgeous, total class act.”
“One manipulative bitch stirring up drama, one guy who knew exactly what was happening but loved the attention. Both pieces of shit! He threw away someone who genuinely loved him, and now karma’s biting him in the ass!“]
They tag–teamed the character assassination perfectly.
Human nature at its finest–years of watching Lennon succeed while they rode the bench, and now they were cashing in on his downfall for clicks and sympathy.[]
The internet went full detective mode and quickly found my photos and academic record, plus screenshots of Nina’s passive–aggressive posts.
Public opinion completely flipped:
[OMG his ex is a Boston PhD and Fields Medal winner?? She’s absolutely stunning! THAT’S a real goddess, makes Nina look like trailer trash! Lennon’s an idiot!] [

Overnight, Lennon lost multiple TV deals and sponsorships. Nina completely vanished–word was she’d been blacklisted entirely.]
Meanwhile, Tristan and I were wrapping up our research project, though some complex data processing kept giving us trouble.[]

Suddenly Tristan was behind me, leaning over to cover my hand on the mouse, solving my hours–long problem in seconds.[]

His breath was warm against my ear as he chuckled low:
“Though I wouldn’t mind if you used your mouth to thank me…“[]

He laughed against my lips:

His tone was pure satisfaction and shameless greed.]
God, this guy! Put on glasses and he’s this cool academic machine. Take them off and he turns into an insatiable… deviant!]
